So, imagine the scenario, someone who is handy with explosives and firearms, maybe ex-forces, with leanings towards the BNP, bit of a right wing racist nutter by all acounts. Anyway, he puts a bomb in a UK mosque, a bloody big bomb, and kills a few hundred good innocent Muslims. He is not caught, but via a website tells the world that for every attack by the extremeist nutters on UK soil, he will retaliate with even worse, sniper shootings in muslim areas, casual bombs here and there at muslim targets, and he is as good as his word and over several months actually carries out the threats.

How would we all react? and would the terrorists cease their attacks in the UK? Would it change anything?

I would be just as appalled as if they were doing it to CofE Churches or in synagogues.

This is exactly the sort of thing that there people (in the loosest sense of the word) want us to do. To create a feeling of disillusionment and mistrust within the community.

Together we stand divided we fall, divide and conquer and all that.

Terrorist attacks don't do anything apart from make us support the war against them more, we certainly don't decide to capitulate for a quiet life. I see no reason why the same thing would not happen in reverse.

I would hope he be hung, drawn and quartered, in the exact same way the people behind the attacks last week should be.

Think you need to change from "imagine the scenario" to "when will a" it is highly likely to happen.

Or altneratively say a Right Wing group planted the bombs 7/7/5 so to start a race war and gain white rule say for example Combat 18.

Maybe the Wombles did it.

Like the guy from the met said rule out nothing rule in nothing not at this stage at least.

Sounds like just the sort of thing Al-Quaeda and their buddies do as a profession. But you can't have two sides picking away at each other for eternity, something more drastic has to be done.

A white supremecist who blows up innocent civilians is a terrorist on par with al quaida, the reaction will be one of condemnation from everyone. The difference is, we know were these idiots are (BNP supporters, etc) so it will make it easier for the SAS or some other extermination service of ours to find them and remove them from the gene pool.

Isn't that what went on in Northern Ireland? It prolonged the agony of "The Troubles" for 30 plus years.

I received an email yesterday from an internet friend that I've been worried about since Thursday. He was in the train carriage that blew up between Liverpool Street and Aldgate.

I'm very shaken by his account. He escaped with tendon damage to a finger and perforated ear drums, plus a few cuts and bruises where he was thrown across the carriage by the blast. Physically, he's lucky to have escaped. He was standing 12-14 feet away from the explosion.

Mentally, he's fd. He saw a woman bent backwards over a seat, her back broken and choking to death on her own blood and he could do nothing for her. He saw another woman with half her stomach blown away being attended by paramedics. He doesn't know if this woman survived.

Some say he's lucky. He doesn't think so.

Anyone who can inflict that type of pain and damage on his fellow man in my mind doesn't deserve the luxury of breath.

Anyone who can bomb innocent people in the name of their cause deserves the death penalty, and I'm not talking about a civilised, organised death by hanging, the chair or injection. I'm talking about being tortured, slowly for days on end by their victims.

There is NEVER any justification for bombing innocent people. NEVER

Curiously, i find the thought of Wombles knocking up IED's in their underground burrow on the kitchen table-(why is it always the kitchen table?) strangely appealing to me.

But there is actually a serious message here; Dont litter.

Seconded. I think that account, more than any photos and pictures brought the horror of Thursday's events home.

As Eric said, no-one wants tit-for-tat bombings to start. There would never be an end to it. After 25 years spread between the North, South and the UK, please God lets not even consider a second 25.

Wouldn't change anything.

As I understand it, the terrorists regard British muslims as traitors to the faith. Sadly the images on the news showing that muslims have been killed in the bombings will not have had any effect, as they're seen as part of the evil western world.

Edited to add: however, it would encourage more western muslims to consider acts of violence, or to act on behalf of terrorist groups.

In all, escalating violence would not actually help in any way, and would probably make things much, much worse.

If it did happen, it would probably appear on the Arab News websites that neglected to run the London bombing story.

Locally they have more to report about (Iraq). I don't see Europeans reporting bombings in the Philippines for instance.

Or the american news services that failed to report any of the 'blue on blue' incidents in the recent Iraq war.

Don't think our media is any better than 'theirs' really.

Interesting to note though what a friend told me the other day. When the Thai's had some "issues" will Al Qaeda they dispatched a group of troops to go and take a mosque. They walked in, locked the doors and started shooting. The Thais don't have many issues with Al Qaeda any more.

However, an eye for an eye won't work here IMHO.

Careful Darling! We turn the Air Conditioning off at Guantanamo Bay (literally), and are accused of torture by various world organizations.
