How do Google adverts ping you ?!

[knitware]

I bought a Samsung Gear watch a few years ago and haven't used it in at least a year. Today I charged it and linked it to my new phone , set up the device and all is well. I log into PistonHeads and I now see pop up adverts for Samsung Smart watches, how the hell does Google know what gadgets I have?

Did you download the Samsung Gear app from the Play Store?

"linked it to my new phone" is probably what done it. Presuming Android phone, it probably pings back to Google when you connect a new device. There is probably some cloud service or other being used for fitness data / snooping.
