This looks like it could become a regular trap. The Cobham junction on the A3 often has a police car with an officer operating a single gun from the passenger seat, but yesterday there were 3 tripod mounted cameras over each lane of the southbound carriageway. Luckily for me I had just passed a patrol car and was therefore only doing 75, and I was getting off at Cobham anyway. There was no warning of the cameras, and the van that had deployed them was tucked away behind some bushes and could not be seen from the main road. They were there at 3pm and still there when I returned at 7.30. B.....ds

We saw those as well on Sat evening (crossing the A3 at that junction), but I thought it looked liked ANPR, not a speed trap.

If it was a speed camera then it probably got me ! I slowed but was still probably going a bit quickly....... depends what they were set at ?

On my way home I went past them and I also thought they looked ANPR 'ish but there were no cars or bikes to pull anyone like they usually have. That said it was the same van that they use for the ANPR with a speed camera sign stuck out the back.....exactly as they do with the ANPR.

The actual cameras did not look like speed cams but with so many new ones coming on the market who knows .

I can only hope they were ANPR - I will no doubt know in 2 weeks !

I've read here, or somewhere else, that these days they also use ANPR for revenue raising. I.e., rather than actually chase cars that are unregistered, they just get the DVLA to send a fine out in the post to the current registered keeper.

So lack of bikes/cars doesn't mean it wasn't ANPR.

Went past too on my bike, saw a few plod cars and a big blue sign saying something along the lines of "reducing crime" so I'm sure it was ANPR

I sincerely hope it was ANPR as we didn't spot them until the last minute and had been travelling rather rapidly beforehand..

ANPR = Automatic Number Plate Recognition but the A3 has a few new systems too!!

DRRS Driver Retina Recognition System that records your own personal ID a bit like ID cards will, a laser beam reflects off your eyeballs retina.

BENDOVER Technologies AVTCS automatic velocity tax collection system that extracts money via your sphincter everytime you change gear over the speed limit.
