V6 running problems
Discussion
With BBWF looming, and only two weekends to work on the car until then, the engine still isnt running well, very down on power. The engine idles ok, and revs freely out of gear, but no power in gear.
What should I check again before I give in and book it into a Bosch garage, im starting to run out of ideas?
The car has been fully rebuilt, with new coil, fuel lines etc etc, i've also replaced the fuel distributor and the distributor to injector bundy tubes.

Iain

Mine seemed livelier after replacing the rotor arm with the (rev-limiter equipped) one specified in the Haynes 2.8i Capri book.
If yours is just a plain old rotor, might be worth a try.
Otherwise, please pay for a Bosch tune-up so we can have some pointers at your expense.
I've replaced the dizzy, and put a new cap and rotor on when i did. HT leads, coil, are plugs are all new, motorcraft box of tricks has been replaced to no avail, the car has fresh fuel, oh and i think the fuel pump has been replaced trying to sort it too.
The problem with the Bosch tune up is the garage i would normally use, one of the trained guys is on long term sick leave and the other is on holiday until the 22nd, leaving a week to sort things before BBWF
Am considering a Weber carb or even a 77-80 Granada Solex 28 carb setup if i can find one (finding a manifold is the problem), just to get the bloody thing running. If i can't get it running then i'll be a no show at the end of the month.

Having just spoken to Richard Moore and taken advice from a few other, i'm ditching the fuel injection in favour of a carb set up. See new thread.

My mate Jim - jchase had some problems with his and changed a load of things before finding that there was a simple explanation: kinks in the return hose meant that the injection pressure was too high and it was consequently running too rich. Check that out before spending too much time on it.

I've checked that, and also for air leaks...as Steve Heath says, check check and check again, so I will do tonight.
Thanks for all your help & suggestions folks keep them coming.

I have had a similar problem with other cars.
It was the vacuum advance to the disti that had a leak.
You still get igntion advance from the increasing rpm but not from demand due to the throttle opening. When you rev with no load the throttle requirements are lower so less advance is needed.
I think that is how it worked anyway.

have you thought about the warm up regulator? as well as providing extra fuel during warm up it also enriches the mixture on load.
Aye, probably about the most troublesome part of the whole system.
Also, anywhere that air can leak in, including the large hose to the throttle, the PCV valve in the o/s rocker cover and the brake servo hose...
Folks, my two threads seem to of got in a muddle, for the sake of sanity and ease, I suggest using this one instead. www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=192604&f=12&h=0
