Speaker Install
Discussion
I've just finished installing Audison Prima APK165 component speakers in my Chimaera and had some mounts printed for the tweeters. I thought i'd get a couple of spares done, but if anyone on here is interested in doing the same thing they can be available. They push in in place of the ash trays:

They are a perfect fit in the standard door card space.
The standard grills don't fit, but you can use these with a bit trimmed out of the mounting flange and attached with double sided tape.

I have powered them using a vibe powerbox microamp and the sound quality is quite amazing for the money and simplicity!

Yeah, I maybe interested as well, as currently got an amp, and have been trying to find the 'right' speakers for the doors.
Question: did your left door have the window motor positioned like mine...? As I know the speakers will tapper to the magnet, but this seems like it's really close to the edge of the cut-out of the standard speaker, not sure the larger ones will fit. See my left door (pic attached).

Also looking at the Audison speakers, although the woofer is 165mm, which I agree is perfect for the doors, the manual says the grill supplied is 193mm...!!!??? That is huge, how much did you have to take off to make it fit...??.

Hi Adam, how much would a pair of those tweeter pods cost?
£70 delivered for the 2nd pair, which is essentially what they cost me. They are MJF printed solid in PA12 and dyed black, so about the best quality you can print.

Ouch....sounds heaps of money, BUT, guess if that's what they cost! I'll take them though, so dm me your bank details and I'll get it sorted with you if that's ok.
Custom bits arent cheap (especially 3d printed in decent materials), but I'm a sucker for a nice detail!

Did you have to cut much out from the original holes, or do the larger speakers fit in the existing holes.
If so what did you use a dremel of some kind...???

The holes need enlarging a bit, I used a dremel and half round file. The speaker packaging has a template on it which it useful for marking, I marked on the carpeted side, removed the door card, drilled a few holes to align the template on the rear side and cut with a dremel. If so what did you use a dremel of some kind...???

I upgraded my door speakers with JL Audio C2-600 as they're a 150mm speaker and the dimensions seemed to be a direct replacement for the Pioneers that I removed including the grills (A little tacky looking) the majority of speakers appear to be 165mm/6.5" and where over sized for my openings.

I considered these for the same reason after reading another thread on here. At the end of the day, there ain't no replacement for displacement if you want good response at the lower frequencies so I decided the 165s were worth the effort, and the Audison kit is difficult to beat for the money!I also added a pair of 8" woofers in the back to supplement the lower frequencies and add a bit of surround.

After 20 years, I realised that I had live without proper decent music, volume & quality for too long. I had upgraded the head unit to a Minidisc, but kept the standard front speakers. It was crap...!! Especially at speed.
So I went for an Alpine Head Unit (with Dab and USB input), Alpine 4 x 120W Amp and Hertz Mille Component Speakers up front. All in for about £1k.
It's a good base, but will be adding some (hopefully discreet!) rear speakers seen to balance things out. Although this on it's own is lovely, especially the tweeters. This thread helped me out regarding speaker sizes, as proof, you can get a 6.5 inch speaker in the door, with just an enlargement of the original hole.

Not many tvr’s with speaker and amplifier upgrades. I think the glassfibre body panels lend themselves very well to a stereo upgrade.
I’m early stages at the moment using some now old school kicker equipment. A 5 channel impulse amplifier running a pair of 8” subwoofers and the obligatory two way components up front. I’m trying to find a nice pioneer prs80 headunit to run everything. That unit can be used as an active crossover and drive my speakers with the correct frequency range from the unit alone. Well that’s the plan anyway
