Well Ted that'll be interesting then.

I've always had a lot of time for Hawthorns, both Rod and Jonathan have been good over the years, we've bought two cars from them Griff500 and Audi A8, got a good trade-in on a 944 (against the Griff) and they sold my Impreza Turbo for a good price on commission, when I couldn't be a**sed to sell it myself.

Sod the TVRs, they've got a very nice lineup of classic Jags for sale.

Maybe they should be known as FMC Centre.....

Excellent, that's just a mile or two up the road from where I live. Gonna have to have a nose around soon...that's quite a nice new building they've got.

Nicely placed for a test drive on A331 too (and I don't think there are any tax machines, sorry, I mean speed cameras there either)

And that luvly smooth surface on the A331. It must be only a 2 minute blast between TVR dealers.
----- 'Not in stock here.... hey ho, I'll just pop down the road to see if they've got any'. Failing that Fernies.
But I'm sure it will all be really amicable........

It astonishes me that no one has stepped up to take over HR Owens mantle here in London.

To not have a dealer presence in the capital is surely a mistake?

Matt.

From the perspective, you would have thought, that TVR would want to try and encourage their existing established dealer network when, lets face it, they aren't exactly falling over themselves with praise & publicity at the moment, it seems to be complete barking mad to me.

Not only do Hawthorn's punt the cars, they have the biggest grid of Tuscan racers (Rod - changed your mind about GT next year yet ?) to actually promote themselves with as well.

I think TVR have lost the plot big-time.

Well said the Beast!!

Hawthorns, having supported TVR through thick and thin over the years would have every right to take this as an outrageous "slap in the face".

They have consistantly promoted TVR through their racing, introduced hundreds of new customers to the marque and looked after them when the car that they have bought has required repairing AGAIN!

Perhaps if TVR took a little more care over what ever they did, be it development, build quality or support of their dealer network, everybody involved in the marque, customers and dealers alike would be in a better position than they are at the moment.

IMHO of course!!

I can't say too much guy's, as TVR read these posts and seem to take them to heart. I think that I've definitly been a major thorn in TVR's side, as a dealer and as a large team in the Tuscan Challenge, because I'm not a 'yes sir thank you sir' chap. I have always worked with the customer as my main concern, looking long term to build worthwhile honest relationships which many of you out there will no doubt confirm. Over the years we have sold hundreds of TVRs, supported them loyally through very testing times when most sane people would have given up and yes, I feel that TVR have in turn let us down badly. Still, having said that, 'it's not over till the fat lady sings' and judging by the very negative reaction that TVR have received since making the news public, who knows what's next? I don't think they fully understood what dealers and customers alike would read into the course of action they have embarked upon, many dealers just can't believe what's happened, and I have had so many phone calls from client's expressing their bewilderment, and comments like "what do TVR think they are doing?", that I must admit to being quite confused by it myself! I am also trying to establish in my own mind why another outfit would invest the considerable sums needed to be a TVR dealer and risk a battle royal, by setting up within 3 miles or so of a long established dealer, unless of course....well we shall see.

Very interesting, we shall see what happens. It is a pity I do not live in the UK at this time, my house (rented out) is just round the corner, about 2 minutes walk, however I have used Hawthorns happily in the past.

Yes, but everyone said exactly the same thing several years ago when Hawthorns muscled in on SHG's business as a TVR dealership. It's a competitive world.

I sold my last Jag to Racing Green Cars and they were a pleasure to deal with, which is pretty unusual when you are selling.

Just to put the record straight, we paid SHG a load of money for the TVR dealership rights, and retained them on a workshop contract for 3 years. We did things correctly as honourable business people do!!!

I wasn't trying to suggest any impropriety. Dealers have come and gone over the years for all sorts of reasons, and it isn't clear if the factory really worries too much about this or not. It always affects local customers if one gives up the franchise though, which can't be a good thing.
