Who would you and wouldn't you work for given the chance? ?

This may get moved to jobs but heyho.

Following on from the 'Denise Coates', thread and a couple of people saying they wouldn't work there or for sports direct or a couple of other companies in the Midlands what motivates you to stay, avoid or try to get in anywhere? Morals? Working practices? Hearsay?

And if anything was an option who/what would it be to work for, self employment allowable

I don't know a lot but some of the stories about Eurogarages (the new ASDA owners) I hear would make me very wary, the owners seemed pretty decent blokes when i spoke to them in the past but i don't think they're really interested in following 'rules' where they can be avoided, maybe that's why they're so 'successful' by taking chances.

I've recently jacked from my govco job (where a few thousand people work) again after going back and doing another year, I now know why I jacked there the first time, worked with some great people and done some interesting stuff but the stress and bullcarp and politics really isn't worth it, I've seen some good peoples lives destroyed by the place with stress whilst the senior management just jump on every bandwagon passing and talk bull.

Chatting to an ex private sector colleague the other day who's been in 3 years I think they will be off as well shortly due to the grinding slowness of the company and it's disregard for innovation and listening to it's staff and lack of integrity of the management.

Roll on moving to a small independent company back in the construction supply industry next month where after being approached again the 'interview' was with the owner in his overalls and then his dad popped in to say hi and 3 other people just worked round us in the office. Whilst the owner made me a cup of tea job is flexible enough for me, less hours less money but more 'interesting', than stuck talking bull in an office.

I suppose my ideal job if I could afford it would be 'retired' I'm just going to fill in for another guy who's in his early 70s and 'retiring'.

I'd work pretty much anywhere if I was in need of a job. I work in heavy plant manufacturing at the moment, but if I was stuck for paying my bills I'd take a job at McDonald's.

I wouldn't take a job at somewhere I'd worked before though.

I haven't worked for someone since my mid 20's when I went self employed.

I'm just not a company man, I can't do the 9-5 grind but I quickly found I was willing to work a lot more hours and a lot harder and smarter when the financial outcome rested completely on the effort I put in.

So, in reality I wouldn't work for anyone other than myself I guess. That just seems to be the way my mind works.
