Recently looking at the classifieds with a view to pricing up my own car, wondered why this is so cheap? Surely it’s at least a low £30k’s car not low 20s.

Being a 1999 makes it a very early mk2 car, I wondered if it’s perhaps the motor show car from 1999.

The WP Sports website is "down for maintenance" ; their Facebook page is unavailable ; there are two different mobile numbers quoted in the advert, neither of which seems to produce any Google hits apart from the ones in their Pistonheads adverts ; and the same car was previously advertised on Ebay in 2018 for £39,990 .... all of which starts to look like some kind of scam.

This webpage shows the same 07912 phone number, and a slightly lower mileage :

Depends on the condition, I suppose. Mentioning that it had a service in 2012, would hardly have me sprinting towards it biggrin

Outriggers done 9 years ago... rest of the chassis’s condition ?

Interior/paint, original 22 year old stuff ?

How many owners ?

There was a Blue 2001 car on Autotrader for £18k about a year ago, that caught my attention. Can’t recall the engine size though.

At £39,990 it was maybe on the high side but then again with only 20k miles maybe not, also the motor show cars were supposedly built a little better, then again it’s not been serviced or used since 2012 so may require a bit of recommissioning.
I know prices may have come down a little of late but to reduce it from £39,990 to £21,990 seems a bit drastic.

I phoned up and spoke to the chap who seemed very plausible and also knowledgeable about TVRs. I said I would have it subject to viewing, but he seemed to want (and the "want" was perhaps just a bit too much) a deposit/credit card details. I said (and he seemed to know) that's not how motortrade to motortrade usually works. Also selling to another motortrader means no customer liability, so would be to his benefit, if genuine.

He said he would check with his partner and come back to me. Since then I have hear nothing, so I also think it is a scam, but would like to be proved wrong....

The comments about ebay above plus https://web.archive.org/web/20201027092733/https:/... show the car at a much higher price.

The website is down and WP Sports Classics Limited No. 11805014 of Mace Lance TN24 8PE was dissolved on 12 Jan 21. However WP Sports & Classics Limited No 10921224 of Mace Lane TN24 8PE is still trading.

So who knows?

Spotted this one also and thought it was noticeably lower than everything else comparable. If it’s too good to be true...

Also spotted this yesterday.. Just assumed there's some sort or catch somewhere not mentioned in the ad.. Like that yellow one with chrome wheels that was around for a year which seemed to be a bargain but was actually a non runner..

Also think this one looks quite cheap, surprised it’s not sold at this price.

Colour combo is perfect, if I were looking to buy I think I’d have snapped this up at this price.

Doesn't this 98 4.5 look like much better value, and yet it hasn't sold either

Bit concerning when someone starts the advert with "although she appears to start and drive...."! That put me off straight away atleast..

The yellow one is awesome, but the colour and speed 6 combo are always a hard sell until you find the right buyer..

Unless the car is being sold by str8six, or with a warranty that can be similarly trusted, I would think it best to assume that any TVR "appears to start and drive"

That 4.5 is Cat D and had been painted with a roller. Track V Road used to look after it and I had the pleasure of seeing it a few times. The term dog rough would have been truly polite.

This is my car and isn't remotely comparable to the orange rollered car hahaha and has very good history which stands up to scrutiny way better than the grey one (which admittedly looks very nice in the pics smile)

My location is perhaps a little off-putting, but the plusses far outweigh this, such as being Str8six prepared and serviced.

I'm sure someone will make a worthwhile journey north of the border at some point wink

Stunning example, very well looked after

Would have considered buying it if living in the UK

Price looks too cheap to me

Ross' car.. Lovely example, he's not long put it up for sale. A yellow SP6 might be a smaller buying market, but well worth the money.

Buyer beware on the smoked titanium Cerb for anyone interested...

I requested service history & outriggers photos via email but was told to call up.
When I rang, somebody else answered the mobile number in the PH advert then passed the phone on to the 'seller'. Immediate alarm bell for me.

Before I even asked a question I was told by the seller that the reason its priced so cheap is because he hasn't got time to sell for a higher price (!) and with currently 15 people interested (allegedly) I was told first come first serve.

Outriggers replaced in 2012 by Taylor TVR but have light surface rust that need addressing - ok not a big issue if its actually only light rust.

Main walkaway issue is a serious mileage discrepancy. The clock odometer is showing around 20K but way back in 2007/8 apparently it had 27K but I was told if I did an HPI check it shows 87K on the HPI report. This makes no logical sense - so really sounds like this Cerb has been clocked.

Couple that with no trade website or information on the seller(s) available its a high risk buy.

Possible scam or more likely they're trying to flog a dead horse / mutton dressed as lamb. From the ad photos it does look like a nice 4.5 lamb!

As a former owner of 4 Trevor's I'd like to see this Cerb back on the road, but as TVR Mads said who knows on this one!
