Can TV internal tuners fail?

The bedroom TV, an older Panasonic has slowly been loosing its channels through poor signal. Now only ch 1-5 HD channels work.

I moved the BT box up there to test, and with the same aerial input all channels are present.

Downstairs TV is also fine.

Have you done a channel re-scan on the TV?

Yes. And at different times if the day. It was fine, and then slowly started to deteriorate.

I suspect you've answered your own question smile

Though it could also be that the transmitter has had adjustments made to it and your BT box has a better quality tuner better able to cope with those changes.

I was thinking that. The TV is probably 9 years old. It has a great picture from the VA panel still. May speak to BT about a second box.

It's possible that if your local transmitter has undergone frequency changes then your current aerial is no longer the optimum one & the Panasonic is having trouble with the weaker signal strength. You could spend a bit on getting an installer out to have a look & measure the signal at the wall outlet & if it's ok then you know it's the TV. You can use an external box like an Humax PVR recorder or similar or there are DTT tuners on Amazon for quite reasonable prices.

Yes internal tuners fail. Happened to an old TV of mine and had to buy a new one to receive a signal from an aerial.

I had a power issue with a Panasonic plasma a little while ago. A local repairer fixed it by disconnecting the freesat tuner by doing this we also lost the HD freeview channels. Maybe your TV has an issue with a SD tuner but the HD one is ok.

Cheers all. I probably thought as much. Time to persuade that we need a new 50” for the bedroom!

You might want to rephrase that wink
