Lazy Developers?
Discussion
Is it just me or are developers not exactly working hard in some games?
I have just picked up F1 2020 (not it is cheap). The Engineer has the same voice and even the interviewers are the same... Hell the engineer even says mostly the same things...
Then in COD the Zombies "fetch me their souls" voice is I am sure pretty much the same as it has been for several years now, I am thinking back to the PS3 Zombies I had and I think it is roughly the same.
Surely with the hundreds of millions spent on games they can afford to switch things up a little?!!?

I think with games that are released every year like this on a franchise basis you have to expect it, buy one every 4 years or so and you will be pretty much where you are in a few years time, it is just a conveyor belt of non development, a few feature, but 80% of the game is the same, like Cod, FIFA, etc
Just avoid
Just avoid
Some noises need to stay the same though.
The alarm in goldeneye.
The squeaky door noise from deus ex.
The willheim scream.
All come up in countless places and make me smile when they do.
Totally get voice acting not changing from year to year is a bit pony though. Unless it's yet another remake.of golden tee golf. That needs to stay the same!

I’ve been playing games for 30+ years, I’ve never, ever seen so many crashes, freezes and bugs as I’m currently getting on my Series X.
I’m well aware of how complicated modern hardware and games are, but CoD Cold War has been bug ridden since launch back in November, not to mention that pile of crap Cyberpunk.

Apart from texture load in and pop ups in Forza Horizon 4 and Jedi Fallen Order my Series X has run like a dream.I’m well aware of how complicated modern hardware and games are, but CoD Cold War has been bug ridden since launch back in November, not to mention that pile of crap Cyberpunk.

I’ve had my controllers disconnecting, also my headset, both now fixed with updates.Call of Duty is a shockingly badly written piece of software, firstly it was crashing the console completely and now it crashes back to the Home Screen about 1 in every 3 games. Plus the freezing, bugs, exploits and yet Treyarch always seem to find time to release new pay to play content, but not fix the many many issues.
Lazy and inept developers.
Probably not the developers at fault - it's unlikely they have got more "lazy and inept" - it's much more likely that the publishers are pushing aggressive timelines. The studio/publisher sets direction, timelines etc - the oft mentioned crunch is not a developer choice (as an example).

Theres a decent video about lootboxes on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTLFNlu2N_M which iirc briefly explains that even though profits have gone up massively, spending on game development has gone down. It's all about maximising profits. NoBrakesWC said:
F1 not the only game. Forza Motorsport 7 was a disappointment when it came out and now taking ages for the new one shows they know fans won't be happy if it happens again.
Forza 7 is the only one in the series I have not bought as I couldn’t justify the price for what was essentially a couple of new tracks that I wasn’t particularly interested in. Wasn’t Gran Turismo 5 another one. Really late to come out and most of the cars on it were the old lower res scans from previous versions with only a few HD cars?

Funny that, I bought Cold War a few weeks ago and it has been fine. It does have a weird bug where it'll load in at less than 30fps but if you press the Xbox guide button it unlocks the frame rate which then goes back to 60fps. I haven't had any other crashes or issues but I do think the SBMM is crap. It can take ages to get a game and often it's evident that connection quality and ping are not factors high on the list for matchmaking. Technically it has been mostly fine for me. It is a bit of a disappointing effort, mainly because Treyarch are usually the best of the COD developers. However, they were stuck with Covid this year that landed in a really significant part of their development cycle.
In general, the state of gaming is far better than it was a couple of years ago. Things seemed to reach peak-crap a few years ago with everything being released broken and patched shortly afterwards. That pre-order banking culture was the cause of it's own demise. CP2077 may have been total junk but that could have been seen coming from a mile off.
