DVLA staff strike over Covid 'fear' at Swansea HQ

BBC said:
Staff at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency in Swansea are "scared to go to work" over Covid concerns, a union has said.
Members of the PCS union started a four-day strike at the agency's headquarters earlier.
DVLA sites in the city have recorded more than 500 Covid cases since September.
A spokesman for the agency said it had followed Welsh government Covid guidance "at every single point".

what makes them think they are 'special' at work ? they could get Covid going into B& Q or the Supermarket now those establishments are done with limiting numbers and social distancing.
We had a girl who was too frightened to come to the office but was spotted queuing to get into a restaurant during Eat out to help out. Rick101 said:
Gov advice is work from home if you can.
I imagine most DVLA jobs are possible from home.
Shameful that a Gov organisation will not lead by example.
What are you doing on here with your facts?I imagine most DVLA jobs are possible from home.

There has been a few stories recently about some toxic management at the DVLA. I do wonder what is going on.

If they go on strike for eg two weeks will their gold-plated, iron-clad, copper-bottomed pension still be receivable on the same date or will it be delayed for the same 2 weeks?
I think they’ll do what most other normal people do which is look at their pension statement and decide on which year to go and then hand their notice in.I don’t think in twenty years time they’ll be worried about that time they lost a few weeks to strike action all that time ago and if they hadn’t gone on strike they’d be 20p a week better off now...
A little Googling reveals a very toxic atmosphere at Swansea with management blatantly taking the piss with their employees and systems so archaic that for many, work from home is a pipe dream despite the government’s push for remote working.

They've got an online service to transfer a private plate...and the "online service" closes at 7pm.

I'm guessing it's just a pretty electronic front for some godawful archaic back-office manual process.
