Had the car a while now but after registering it in the UK havent driven it much due to not having the engine running well and not enough funds to properly sort it. Just taken the engine out to have new liners and the block inspected for possible corrosion. Had a distinct lack of power when I last drove it a year or so ago and had low compression on all cylinders. As I dont know the full history of the engine thought it was worth having it properly rebuilt.

Might as well clean up the parts that are off and get new hoses ect especially as the coolant looke pretty horrible. Also would like the bumpers resprayed after a bad job had been done on parts of the front with different shade red.

Not great at taking photos of progress during builds but ill try and add some up here of any helf interesting ones. Fingers crossed it will be back on the road for the summer!

Oh now this I am very, very interested in.....I’m currently rebuilding the engine on my AX (nowhere near as good condition) following a head gasket/crank seal/sump gasket related series of oil leaks.

Please keep posting up progress and updates!

I never even knew these existed until last week when a friend with many BX sports said he was looking at one abroad to compliment the BXs

Ace project and I’ll watch this carefully

Wow now that is a rarity.

As a (previous) serial AX owner I am very jealous.

What is the AX Sport? I’ve heard of the AX GT and GTI but not the Sport? I’m guessing it may be similar to the mainland Europe only 205 Rallye variants.

Yes, it uses the same engine (TU24) as the 205 euro Rallye. The AX Sport S1 and early S2 (mine) used Solex 40 carbs and switched to Webber DCOE for the remaining S2 cars. The Rallye only used the Webbers and had a longer intake manifold as there was more room in the bay! I think the Rallye had small trumpets on the carbs too (not entirely sure) but the AX has none.

There was a Spain only AX sport with a TU3 engine on a single carb but cant find much info on it!

Yes, I fancy a red BX Sport to match this too! Something cool about sporty 80's french cars on carbs.

Been debating getting a small oil catch tank / oil separator for it but the size of the outlet on the rocker cover means I'll have a massive 25mm pipe running over most of the engine which imo will look a bit ott / weird. Option 2 is to use a hose reducer but could end up looking a bit messy. Starting to think about abandoning that idea now and just keeping it standard. This is the std oil separator valve which sits between the engine and intake carb box. The smaller connector is the vacuum to the RH carb body. Cleaned it out the best I could with carb cleaner but some fairly heavy deposits on the housing that wont shift but I should think wont be going anywhere anyway.

Excellent. My first experience of brisk motoring was when a friend of my Dad took me for a spin in his AX GT in the late 1980s.It cornered hard and sounded great as he redlined it through the gears.

G181 RGF was mine, "our Geoff".

Fun, fun car. The amount of times I went into a corner thinking it was too hot and she just went round😁

Yup there is I agree.

Said friend has a BX sport in every available colour, along with other rarities such as a couple of 16vs and a digit

Woah! I thought there was only 1 left in the UK that anyone knew of? Sold a couple of years ago at auction?

Had an AX GT - E156 VUM - back in the day, my first car, great little traffic light battler. Enjoy!
