997.1 Turbo tiptronic overrev
Discussion
i have a 2008 997.1 turbo tiptronic. The car was tuned before i go the car without my knowledge, and i don't know any details of the tuning, just that according to a tuning expert "it is a good tune".
Since i bought the car in 2016 i have managed to "overrev" 4-5 times. Every time it was when i put the car in Manual and drove using the buttons on the steering wheel. however, each time i overreved the scenario was as follows: immediately i overreved, the car went into "Idle", i.e. the engine was reving but wasn't engaged to the drive train. in such cases, the only thing i could do was to coast to the side of the road and switch off the ignition. i then restarted the car and all became as normal. i have googled a good deal on the Net but i haven't seen any other post that reflects a similar experience. from what i read I have understood that either it was impossible to overrev the engine with Tiptronic (either in M or A). Or if one does overrev, the engine is prevented from reving any higher through a limiter. this is obviously not the case with my car. can anyone help me here?

I’ve read that it is possible to over rev a tip, but very difficult to do.
I assume you mean you have done it on 4 or 5 occasions (not 4 or 5 revs), which is very surprising. How many over revs on each occasion?
Saying that, it might be that the “tune” has allowed it to happen? Maybe it raised the Rev limit?

Hi I am new on here and new to buying my first Porsch 911 997.2 4s got this car and have 14 days to decide weather am keeping it or not from a garage who are selling.Ticks all boxes for me,it’s got low miles at 19.500 miles and been dry stored for 4 years. They have put it through a major Sevice and everything looks good. I took it to porcshe for an 111 point check and looks ok apart from the over Rev data. Is this somet to worry about? Am paying a premium for this car and just wanna make sure am buying the right car,but am just little confused as I don’t totally understand these over revs. Is this data somet to be alarmed by or should I just go for it. Engine sounds ok and runs. Am hoping some1 can shed a bit of light on this data sheet
Thanks

Thanks
If the report is when the last ignition events occurred for each range then.....
There have been more than 50 operating hours (128) since last rev 5 ignition so should be ok.
Last rev ignition in range 5 was @473hrs.... but there have since been some in rev range 1 @601hrs....

In reply to James Moffat- If the data log genuinely has the type of anomaly in it shown in your pic it would be considered implausible and can be disregarded.
To OP; your cars issues seem to be associated with the 'tune' and would make for a bit of a pain not being able to drive it without maybe having to coast to a halt?! Having the DME and TCU's reprogrammed on a PIWIS tester may help (but would obviously return the stock map).
