Removing a wordpress admin - how?

I need to remove a wordpress admin from a friend site but the obvious way doesn't work, ie following the wordpress process.

I have friends login and been able to create myself as a new Admin user, but when I follow the routine to remove the unwanted one, it says there is an error and doesn't remove it. It also won't let me down grade the account.

It looks like the site is hosted by wordpress parent and i have taken backups just in case.

Any ideas?

Any access to the DB? If so go in and remove from there.

Ensure there is a current admin at top level, may be why you cant remove?

If not just change the email then reset the password?

Presumably you logged out of the account with which you created your own admin login, and logged in with your own one before trying to delete?

Is your friend (the site owner) able to do this - it might be hidden permissions.
Worse comes to the worst get your friend to contact WP support (if he is using their hosting) - even when I was using their free service the help team were quick to respond and help through on line chat.

Usually if you are an admin, you can sign in under your account and then delete the other admin user.

Have you tried changing their role at all?

If you have FTP or database access you can run a bit of code or remove it from the database,

It might be a wordpress multisite installation though - and as an "Admin" you won't be able to delete a "Super Admin" which controls the network.

Can you just change the other account to a subscriber?
