What car is it? Rear or front wheel drive? Drum or disc brakes on the rear? Does it speed up and slow down with road speed or engine speed? Does it stop when you slow or not till the car stops.
Hi, thanks for your reply. It's a 2012 Ford fiesta. Front wheel drive. Pretty sure it's drum breaks. The Clapping noise occurs when breaking. It occurs the most when I break from fast speeds eg coming off a motorway. And it only stops when I come to a complete halt.I'd be amazed if this is genuine.
1- get a new mechanic
2- ensure it has all the wheel nuts/bolts in place and torqued up. Any where there have been some missing will need new ones as they'll likely be bent or over stressed and could fail any minute.
3- if its not that then I've know similar where the lining has come away from the brake shoes. Could be this
4- when removing the drum to assess the brake shoes then it will be obvious if the bearing has collapsed.

So I've been back to the mechanic. He mentioned that the break pads have 300 miles in them and that everything else, including the bearings are in check. He mentioned how the disc being warped however, he said if this was to be the fault it would happen everytime I break and not just occasionally. 1- get a new mechanic

But its drums on the back?
I dont want to labour the point, but that noise is not the sound of something insignificant or difficult to find/locate. It's fairly major and so should be simple to at least find the route cause. If your mechanic can't find it, its time to find a better garage/mechanic.

300 miles or 3000 miles left on the brake pads ,as 300 is not a lot of life left ,they need doing NOW.Anony12125656 said:
