Right, got done last week for 49 in a 30. Comment as you will, but it was a 30 zone lasting 2 hundred yards on the double carriageway ringroad around bolton - i'd overtaken and put my foot down 20 yards before the 40 zone restarted, after an alleged accident blackspot. Got done by a bikecop dressed entirely in black with a laser gun stood hiding behind a fence. How pleasant. Question is - do i have to notify my insurers, CiS, of my 3 shiney new points, as i'm not the policyholder, ie its an open policy - anyone can drive the car with permission. If i do have to, how much will it add to a £600 premium [thats for the mother and me]?

Thanks for your advice, i've done a cursory search of the forum and couldnt find much!

Hi - your mother needs to disclose your big time criminal misdeed to her insurance compny at the renewal date but one SP30 should not increase the premium too much and with some companies not at all.

Right - or i could inform the CiS on her behalf! lol! I dont get why i only got 3 pts for it, almost as if the PC wanted to be lenient because he knew he was talking bullshit; they had a queue of people waiting to be given tickets, such was the rate of their laser gunning antics!

Last time I renewed my insurance policy, the standard 'any claims, accidents or convictions' question had changed to 'any claims, accidents or convictions excluding fixed penalties for speeding'

When I queried this with the broker, he told me that they recognised that almost every performace car driver was likely to pick up an SP30 or two, sooner or later, and that it was no longer considered to increase the insurance risk!

Because if you were going 1mph more it would have been a summons. Think yourself lucky! But bad one for getting caught.

Thanks for the heads up Rick, I hadn't heard of stealth tactics in Bolton.
Do you mean on/near the A666 St Peter's Way. 3 cameras northbound, 2 southbound. 50 limit, reduced from NSL (70) - at least when you know where they are you can resort back to the original speed limits.

Beware - on A666 -especially on Thursdays. Mad Doc posted something he read in Bolton Evening News on Paul's site - but it seems both of us forgot to place on here for interested parties.

It seem that BiB are using mobiles und hairdryers between the scams at A58/A575??? und lower down the road und allegedly copped over 200 drivers between the scams two week ago according to paper. This road apparently used to be a 70 mph limit und Mad Doc was in his Manchester clinical days und based at one of local hospitals when A666 became a suicide hot spot - seems people thre themselves off a bridge at Raikes Lane in early 80s when he was completing his clinical training there. These are only accidents on A666 which local people remember when asked (we have pals in this area und three of Mad Docs' relatives in the area too). It seems the scam appeared to enforce the lower limit only und not because of any accident.

So would not advise returning to original limit on Thursdays in particular.....as it seems boy racers congregate in town on that particular evening for some reason.

Und I believe the other hot spot to be Moss Bank Way which ist another ring road serving Bolton which has limit reduced to 30 mph near the park (which I can understand) und 40 mph elsewhere. It used to be 50mph at one time so I understand but may have heard incorrectly as I was attending to a kitten at the time.

Then this ist Moss Bank Way one - probably as ist the 30 mph/40mph one.

Ist KNOWN for this Liebchen Ist even KNOWN 120 mile up the M6 as a for speeding as ist crawling mit police brandishing haridryer behind hedges just before the limit change. But you were still above threshold even in the 40 mph zone at 49 mph....... Isr one to be wary of .... und ist a COAST road because of the park und the housing estate which I remember there... (We went to a wedding at the Last Drop place... und we got signed up there from M61...ist another reason why we know of this road und Mad Doc does take our sons to football matches of fave teams when he can - und ist sometimes ending up at the Reebok Stadium....( He does not like football - ist a rugby man - und am rugby widow in winter und golf widow in summer )

SP 30 may not get a loading - you will have to shop around for best quote at each renewal for next 5 years. But so many have SP30 these days und insurance companies know that this ist not meaning "dangerous und high risk" type driver any more either - which again seems to undermine the "for your safety" claims by the chief prats here.

Cliffe, this was actually on the ring road - most of it isnt dual carriageway. The section i got done was coming downhill, going on the stretch from the junction at Halliwell Road and the bottom of Smithills Dean Road and towards the ASDA junction with Blackburn road, coming downhill just as you enter the 30mph zone. When lasered i was about 20m from the signs reading '40'. Nice. Bolton is otherwise ok for cameras - ive never ever seen a mobile unit before being done last week. There are however a handful of cameras on St Peters Way, but you can learn them!

Rick - it was healines of local Bolton Paper about three weeks ago. Smithills Dean Road has always been a speed trap - or was when I was at the District Hospital when I qualified. They also have speed traps up Belmont Road - between one of the reservoirs and the road which leads up to the the Lagoon and the moors and Rivington...

As for St Peter's way - Bolton press (story of three weeks ago) was full of 200 drivers getting zapped by mobiles and the word (per paper report) is they are stepping up the attack even though Bolton has not had any Ks so far this year...the onely SI being the the passenger who was injured when some thug chucked a brick at the car he was travelling in around the Castle Street area of town...

Thus - be careful on St Peter's Way for time being.
