So the faithful HP (lasted over 10 years mostly on non HP cartridges) has finally succumbed to the alignment failure and magenta cartridge incontinence of old age. RIP
Replacement requirements:
-NO scanner (got a EPSON flat bed that will no doubt last another good few years)
-Wifi not essential as stuck in the office next to the desk and desktop PC
-Eldest is doing art/ photography (and I dabble too) so mainly 10x15 photos but A4 would be good for the portfolio/ frame at home etc
-Able to print b/w and colour documents that go along with home schooling x2 and be able to deal with oh I've left this to the last minute "can you print 20 pages asap" (even though -had all term to print off as as go along)/ plus work stuff that I print off just to get away from the screen.

I did look at the other thread but that included scanner, and didn't know if without scanner would get a slightly better dedicated printer for the same money?

Thanks in advance PH gurus

Do you want a laser/inkjet/wax sub & what is your budget? Do you need photo quality?

Not fussed re first 3 so long as works (the HP was inkjet but lasted well, from research so far, the newer ones not so much). Flexible on budget say up to £300, and yes photo quality as even when I've sent away from usual suspects online not been enamoured with their products.

Thanks

Just to say, never been disappointed with Photobox ... especially large prints.

If you are going to print a lot of photos then an Epson Eco Tank 2710 slashes the ink costs to a "don't care" level.

https://www.printerland.co.uk/product/epson-ecotan...

yes it does scan and copy, but if you can ignore that it's a good choice.

Minor downside is that it's "only" 4 inks.

For the best photo prints go for a 6 ink printer.

Epson Expression Photo XP-8600 is good value for A4 only.

Nothing like printing big at home though (imho) smile

Printing A3 (or A3+) can be addictive, but expensive in ink.

If you fancy that, then the Epson Expression Photo XP-970 is certainly worth looking at.

I’ve gone the Epsom Ecotank route, and been very impressed so far. Need for A3 meant I bought the ET-15000. It duplexes A4, prints perfectly acceptable quality photographs, and so far after around 100 photo prints, numerous A3 diagrams and more that 500 sheets of A4, the ink levels haven’t noticeably moved.

Same inks as 2700 so the print heads are likely identical.

Do you print photo prints on photo paper?

Thanks went for XP-8606 (same as XP-8600 but white) due to availability/ delivery times so will see if I get a good one... fingers crossed.

Well out of the loop, but been very impressed with my now 15yo Canon iP4000.

It's a four colour inkjet with additional pigment based black, so does high-speed text printing. In built duplexer else for larger docs can manually turn which is faster. Usage is through the floor now but back in the day it did all my uni work, including printing my final year and masters dissertations in triplicate, plenty of CDs (remember them) and photos on nice paper. Only ever run it in genuine inks and they are not that dear, now normal bought via eBay! Inkjet heads are also user replaceable.
We also now have a b&w HP laser network printer which is what my partner had, and between them happy days. Also had a lovely Epson back in the day.

WiFi printing is handy for laptops and the like.
Colour laser has come right down in price but can't do good photos.

Summary, unlikely to go wrong with the majority of offerings from Canon/HP/Epson

Photo prints should be cracking.

I'd strongly recommend getting a mono laser for bulk printing too, plenty of budget left wink

Brother HL-L2350DW or HL-L2370DN are cheap and reliable
