Someone else’s drivers license arrives at your address

Obviously a hypothetical question ...from a friend of a friend
What would you do if you received someone else’s drivers license to your home address ?
Not a postal error, as the license has your house number on it. But a different mugshot, it’s not you..
House was a New build and so you are the only and original owners for over 10years, no historical residents.
Perhaps admin error or Is it someone attempting identity theft, perhaps to open bank accounts etc
So do you just report it to Swansea or take it down the local police station ?
Any advice as best practice in this situation?

Contact DVLA,who'll reply that it was an "administrative error". That's the story I got told when I received a V5 for an unknown vehicle at my place. Been here for almost 30 years so no chance someone had made a mistake. And another common mistake ( I wonder about the eye standards in RM these days ) is that I sometimes get mail for a house further down road .( e.g. if my house is xx ,then I'll get mail for 1xx.Makes a mockery of the postcode system as in our road postcode changes evry so many houses.
Over the years we have had drivers licences, pay cheques, court summons, V5's, insurance policies, bank account details, pin numbers, credit / debit cards - all for current or previous lodgers at our next door neighbours (we are ##, she is ##a). When we first moved in, we would drop them back next door, but they would never bother amending the address, so now we shred them or return them as not known.

I’ve actually had this happen to me, although I’m not in a new build but an old Georgian house that has been converted in to flats. I contacted DVLA who simply said to write “Return to sender” on the envelope and post back.What would you do if you received someone else’s drivers license to your home address ?

Definitely this. I wouldn’t have even opened the envelope as it would have had someone else’s name on it. Just sent it straight back. Blockbuster said:

Correct answer.I've been posting stuff 'return to sender, unknown at this address' on several occasions; apart from the odd mail order company not getting the message, all the important/official stuff, usually in brown envelopes, have never come back to bite.
