The CBX1000 was from 1978 (the year I got my SS50 moped!
) so a little earlier and was, I think, the first 100+bhp bike from the Jap big 4. I think the Van Veen managed 100bhp in the early '70's but I don't know if it was before the Munch Mammoth.
Did you have that set of Top Trumps too then

From memory it was only the later Mammoths that had over 100bhp, but I think they were still early 70s.
Looking lastnight, it seems the CBX1000 beats the GSX1100 by a year.

Munch Mammoth from the early 1970s had 100bhp I believe?
I had to wikipedia this.Not the direct source, but Wiki says;
"The 1200TTS model was originally fitted with a pair of Weber 40DCOE carburetors, but by 1973 Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection was available (designated Model 1200 TTS-E – Einspritzer – the German word for injection), which gave 100 hp"
Handbuilt from car engines eh? Fascinating stuff.
As an ex '84 GPz1100 owner I always had an interest in trivia surrounding that bike, and one of the US comics at the time claimed it was the first bike tested to make 100hp at the rear wheel as opposed to manufacturers figures or figures calculated at the crank. So if we're talking real measured hp, then it would be a GPz1100, in 1984
