Hi all (especially fellow RED camp members),

A guy rang me last week about a pinto geep he's just bought with an eleccy fan fitted on the outside of the grill! It's not alone - I drove past one in mid wales on me hollys last week.

He says there isn't room for it under the bonnet but i cannot think why as surely some other pinto geeps also have eleccy fans fitted???

Has anyone installed a fan to their pinto geeps? and be able to advise??? I cannot offer more information as I aint seen it and probably won't as he's near Heathrow - miles away from Manchester. Any advice I could pass on might save him from changing back to a Xflow as a mechanic pal of his has advised!

I would assume that he has got a later pinto with the thermostat controlled engine fan. Which from memory has a longer shaft sticking out of the pump. by changing to the early pinto mk4 cortina era he may then have enough room to fit a slimline fan on the engine side of the radiator.

When I bought my YELLOW Geep fitted with a 2.0L pinto the radiator was on the outside of the body behind the bullbar!.
I have removed the viscous fan and cut the shaft off flush with the pulley and moved the radiator to the inside. Space is very tight so I bought a pair of Kawazaki ZX12R Motorbike electric fans (£6 ebay) that are about 8" diameter and fitted them between the engine and the radiator, one top left and one btm right where the hoses enter & exit. These fans are the "suck through" variety.
I recommend the use of these (check they are 12V) as the amount of air they move is amazing. Keeping a high performance motorbike cool does require powerful fans.
I have them fitted to a switch in the dash so as soon as I stop moving I flick them on & turn them off whilst driving.
Motorbike fans are very powerful and very slim.
Hope this is of help.
