Private plate query

Not really had much to do with private plates and the ins and outs of transferring them.
But we purchased a car from BCA with a private plate it was described as not guaranteed to be with the car. Which is fine it was the car we bought not the plate.
My question is how do I find out if the plate is with the car or not? I have the V5 but it could have been taken off online. If I go onto the check if this car is taxed it shows this car on the private plate as not taxed. The plate I don’t think has any real value and we bought the car to sell from our retail forecourt.
Any ideas?
The plate is G19GRY last owner was Gary previous owner was Gregory.

That reg is showing up as a silver E220 AMG.

If that’s your car, I’d say you’re good to go...

ETA you need to get your front tyres, pads and discs seen to.

Apply to make your registered keeper. If the V5C comes back in your name with that registration then it is yours.

If DVLA have sent YOU a new V5 with that number on it then the number is on the car and is yours. If their description matches the car and it will let you tax it then it indicates the number is valid - IIRC you can't take a private plate off a car you don't own.

If it had been transferred off the new V5 would have the correct (new) number on it.

I think the point has been missed here.

The plate could be on retention by the previous owner and DVLA may not have updated records if it wasn't done online, especially if this latest transaction has occurred recently and quickly. Only they will be sure.

The plate will not be on retention as it's clearly showing as been on the Mercedes untaxed and you have the V5. BCA always declare the declaration you are "buying the car and not the plate" just to cover themselves so the plate is now yours,you could retain it yourself but as said that would cost you £80 and another owner on the V5 or advertised the car with the original reg which you can find out with a basic HPI check and then give the new owner the choice which they want if they want it back on the original number this can be done by DVLA with out any charge.
