156 Air Con keeps turning off

Found that the earth cable on the battery was loose last weekend when I came to start my 156 2.0 tspark and nothing happened, all systems were dead.
Tightened up the earth cable and it all came back to life. Can't see any fuses blown but haven't had them all out to test.
However now the air con has to be turned on every time I start the car. It didn't used to it would remember whether it was on or not and come back to that state.
I followed the manual to set the auto compressor setting but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
Everything else is fine and once I turn on the compressor it all works as it should. Is their a fuse I should check?
Any thoughts or do I have to take it to a dealer?
