Well that was retarded if nothing else! Given the position of the access into the close, I can't imagine it's a particularly fast road anyway.

Am I mistaken or has she bought a house beside what appears to be a dual carriageway, then complained that it has all the noise and function of a dual carriageway? She admits in the article she viewed the house several times. Granted, on Saturday mornings, but the road isn't rolled up and put away for the weekend: it's still visible from the windows of the house, with two lanes in either direction.
She shouldn't have a leg to stand on when it comes to demanding changes made to the road. Even if the Bureau of Straight-Piped V8s opens an office next door to her.

She will get used to it.
Used to live in the police house in Greta Bridge about 10 feet away from the A66 (in the 1960s) and after a couple of weeks we just didn't hear the traffic My sister even slept through a tipper rolling about 20 feet away from her bedroom window. No double glazing in those days.
They can't even get the road number right . . . .

So many questions
£350k ?!
Viewed 7 times and didn't notice ?
Wants crash barriers and a 40mph limit ?
Husband not named
Racers doing wheelies ?
Not researched the area ?
Converter fan in the en suite
Washing the windows 4x a week ?
Fight to the nail ?
Nobody would buy the house
Absolute DM gold

Words fail me.
The poor woman.
Imagine a Dual Carriageway like that just suddenly appearing overnight when they weren't expecting it.
And then having to go and buy a speed gun to find out how fast the boy racers were going when doing wheelies outside.
Yes, the council should absolutely spend taxpayers money and put up some crash barriers and also inconvenience everyone by putting up a 40mph speed limit. This poor woman's life is being ruined, ruined I tell you because this evil dual carriageway is unexpectedly being used as a dual carriageway.
In no way should she have done any form of due diligence when buying the property, it's not her fault, how could she have known that a dual carriageway 9ft from her garden fence might be a problem.
As for not being able to sell, well, not now she has had it published in the national news how terrible that house is.
Hopefully her sad compo face will get some money rolling in soon. I'm surprised there isn't a GoFundMe page up and running.

I once viewed a house for rent that was about hundred feet from a dual carriageway and rejected it due to noise and that had a fifty limit in that section. It takes a certain kind of thick person to buy a house with one just the other side of the back garden fence and then be surprised it is noisy.
I have a vaguely similar issue - although I didn't buy a shoebox (£350k? Seriously wtf
) next to an NSL dual carriageway.
We moved into our place in May 2003, it's set back about 100 yards from the road and raised up. Lovely semi-rural setting, with mile upon mile of open countryside behind. The road is pretty popular as it's on the way to nice leisure riding roads. There's no issue with lorries going past, don't notice them. What has got worse and worse and worse over the last few years is "boy racers" and d
heads in their "weekend toy" (probably weapons who think there is "sound and fury", "drama" or a "sense of occasion" in having a V8. Probably on PH) and loud motorbikes - especially Harleys. It's definitely a result of these loud cars becoming more "fashionable" but the racket as they open up and take off is absolutely incredible on weekends - it's as bad as a racetrack sometimes and the speeds they're hitting I would estimate to be three figures (it's a 30 limit). Sometimes if I'm down by the gates you can feel the concussion of the things. Worst in terms of noise and speed are the Golfs and A3s, then all the E63s, Ferarris and McLarens etc.
I'm not someone who has bought a house and complained about an existing problem - this is something relatively new but it's just going mad of late. As I said - you don't even notice HGVs, it's just loud cars. It's turned me into a proper fanatic - I'd like to see EVERY vehicle properly silenced by law, don't care whether it's a supercar, V8 or something, or you think you're special. There is no need whatsoever for any vehicle whatsoever to be noisy from a road use perspective.
