Just got into the office, read this and came straight onto PH to see what was being said about it 
What a joke. Do they honestly believe that London is laced with bombs that explode on detecting a US military person walking past
And like they’re going to try another large scale attack less than a week after the first one.
This is especially hypocritical as GW was quoted as saying the US would "not retreat in the face of terrorists" and "In this difficult hour, the people of Great Britain can know the American people stand with you."
What kind of message does this send? Pathetic…

Nationally they do tend to overreact to these incidents. The British response is always far more defiant.
Just had it pointed out to me that large part of Florida are a no go area due Hurricane Dennis 500,000 already evaculated.

They've been very sympathetic here to what's happened in London. All of the flags in the centre of Paris are at half mast and the reaction I've had from people I work with is all positive. I must admit though, with the Bastille day celebrations happening on Thursday I've not seen such a large Police presence here before
I believe the advice came from the American military commanders at Lakenheath and Mildenhall, not the US government.
Listening to John Reid (I thought he was health?) on breakfast TV this morning he said he believes it was "a short term decision" and he has a meeting with the American ambassador today.

Lets not all try to be sucked into the media hype.
This instruction was issued on Thursday (which I think is entirely reasonable as the govmnt were asking EVERYONE to stay away from central london). It was also to keep these people out of the way of the emergency services doing their work.
The UK military received exactly the same instuction, but we're not jumping up and down about it.
Remember that the standard of journalism in this country is terrible and most (including the BBC) thrive on sensationalisms and half-truths designed to stir emotions rather than present facts. Its like schoolyard gossip.

this decision may make the americans appear spineless or lacking in stiff upper lip but that's our trait not theirs so don't attack them for being different eh?

I know that road. Maxed out our Daewoo Leganza rental along there while watching out for spotter planes. Sedona's cool too, the air/light is strangely extra clear there.
Most of this is a total over-reaction.
Of course on Thursday in the immediate aftermath of the bombings when no-one knew what was going on, or how many more bombs there were etc, etc, etc, any Embassy or large government or military organisation on foreign soil would urge caution until the facts became much clearer.
The Brits do it all the time, and it is the only sensible and responsible thing to do. The first duty of a Govt. is to protect it's citizens. If they hadn't issued a warning, and something happened, the US would rightly be remiss.
This is a total sh*t stirring story about nothing.
