Went down to the garage this morning all booted-up ready for the ride into work, only to find that some little toe-rag has decided that he would make a better owner for my bike than I would :furious:

I have reported it to the police, but they tell me that I am very unlikely to see it again, other than burned out. All though gutting to her, at least they were honest

The bike was a Suzuki GSXR 600 K2, in dark Blue and Silver :lick: - so quite a rare colour combo. The reg was KU 52 LUE. I am putting this up here on the off chance that someone may see the bike and could let me know.

Obviously I don't hold out too much hope, but you never know.

Cheers,

Alex

Good thinking - it was stolen from the Isle of Dogs (East London).

Apparantly, 3 others were stolen in one day last week in the same area. What do they do with these? I can't imagine they are joy riden?????

Possibly joy riders, but unlikely.

The GSXR (and it's ilk) are popular for track use, so that's where it or parts thereof will probably end up.

Could also have just gone for the panels. The K model gixers are just starting to fall within the budget of scrotes, especially the battle scarred ones. Did you notice anybody following you home recently? Are there any distinguishing features on your panels? Was it datatagged?

Sorry for your loss, you probably won't want the bike back now that it's been soiled - even if the bobbies do find it.

Cheers guys,

I suspected the bike, or bits of it would end up on the track - I just can't imagine many people joy riding it.

It is a real shame, it was an absolutley mint bike and was completley standard, but had a few choice mods:
- Blue double bubble screen
- Art Pro Series II exhaust
- Rear hugger
- Harris crash bungs
- Tasty nuts everywhere.

The annoying thing was that it was alarmed/immobilised and had been alpha dotted. Whoever gets hold of it will know that it is a stolen bike, so I hope that if they do decide to take it and race it they fall off!

I am not sure what I will do. I think I am going to get stung for a £750 excess and I have only been riding for 9 months, so don't have any no-claims built up.

I am tempted to go all out and get a GSXR 1000, but really need to see what the insurance company say.

How many of us use these chain anchors in garages or any other devices like that ?

I don't have one at the mo' but you've made me think seriously about getting one.

Alex,

Sorry to hear of your theft. I had my K4 Gixer 750 stolen from right outside my office at the end of May and therefore I know how you feel.

When I spoke to the Police they said the bike will be stripped for spares and apparently the value of the bike is roughly double when it comes to spares, i.e. 6k can make around 10-12k in spares. Not sure if this is correct, but even if they make anywhere near this it is still a bloody good earner for the scrotes who do this. My bike (with Datatool, front and rear disc locks) was stolen in less than 3 minutes and was caught on a local CCTV camera. However the van they used was nicked (would you expect anything else?!) so the CCTV footage was next to useless.

My insurance paid out for the bike within 2 weeks and offered by the top rate for the second hand value. If the scrotes had decided to pinch the bike a few weeks earlier then I would have got a new bike straightaway courtesy of the policy.

My old bike had a Yoshi can, PCIII, R&G Crash Bungs, Speedohealer, smaller front sprocket, NWS rear hugger and some other bits and pieces as well (intercom, etc..) To get my new bike (K5 750) back to this level and with the excess, etc... it has cost me close to £2k. I decided that I wasn't giving in to those scum who don't want to earn a crust doing honest work and thought feck it and hence me getting everything again!

Vitesse, I have a ground anchor at home and chain my and my wifes bike to it. However I read a recent thread on Visordown about these and somebody had I think an Oxford chain going through it and the scrotes managed to break the Oxford (Sold Secure/Thatcham approved) chain within seconds and they were off with his bike.

Alex, I live on the Isle of Dogs too and had my Gixxer6 K3 nicked at the start of April so I can feel your pain.
About 6 months before it finally went someone tried to steal it and broke the top yoke to get the steering lock off leaving it unridable. They failed to nick it due to the Abus disclock requiring even more time to remove than the lock/chain which they froze to break.
My theft a pro job definately through a secure gate and they knew where it was parked and locked up hidden from view.

Personally I'd recommend you don't replace it with another gixxer! These are seemingly top of the list to nick from round our area. Your comment about others going rings only too true.
I got the insurance payout after 2 months but have replaced it with an old non-gixxer 600 now. (giving no more details than that).

Mine was at my girlfriends flat.

It was chained to the wall in a secure access, gated car park underneath her flat, well out of site.

I have a feeling that whoever took it must have seen me ride it in, because I can't imagine anyone knowing it was there otherwise.

I am just worried that the insurance company are going to try to screw me on the excess. It has to be in a locked building at night or the excess doubles. Having said that I am argue that is what this car park is - it is secured access only after all!

Oh well - I have my phone interview booked with them on Wednesday, so fingers crossed.

Cheers,

Alex

Alex,

What you describe is soo similar to my theft its unbelievable. I must have definately been watched going in or coming out of the property. Mine was behind secure gates locked up and well out of view.
They must have tail gated someone else into the property.

Good luck with your insurance grilling, I felt the whole time that I was being accused of fraud/attempted fraud which was not a nice feeling. This was down to the questions asked and the tone of the voice of the insurance person.
They eventually paid out some two months after it went missing.
To be honest everytime I see a blue/white gixxer 600 I take a good look to see if it could be my old one.. to be honest I know it won't be and technically if ever found the insurance company now own it.

Cheers

Scotty

Sorry to hear your bad news mate, have you thought about a tracking device for your bike? mtrack is a Thatcham and Sold Secure approved wireless gsm/rf based tracker and is about the size of a pack of playing cards which means it can be located anywhere and will still track when it is loaded inside by the thieves e.g. garage, lorry etc.
