After a stupidly hot day yesterday, its becoming obvious that my aircon needs regassing. I'm assuming it doesn't need to be a main dealer visit as anyone who does regassing can do it???

Just wanted to check before removing the bonnet and finding "unusual" air con connections....

Thanks anyone.

Big Al.

Thought that was the problem with mine! But not the case.
It appears that there are two plenums under the bonnet one for the air-con (nearest wing) and one for the heater system, they both interact.

Now it was the motor in the heater plenum on mine that was shot! So when you switched on the air-con the heater flap shut off valve did not function, hence warm air all the time.

It appears that the way to check if the air-con needs re-gassing is the power up the engine, turn on the air-con you should be able to hear it being turned on. Hold the air-con manifold situated by the heater plenum and see if it gets icy cold. If it does then I betcha it's the heater plenum motor that's shot.

Are you the "fastest replier in the west"?

Thanks for that, I'll have to have a look when I next get a chance. It does get sort of cold, but not cold enough, hence the thought that its just gas it needs. I'll have a look on Thursday I think.

Thanks again.

Mine doesn't get very cold either. On super hot days it is still warm in the car.

On the up side the car gripps like mad when the tyres get hot so the adrenaline takes over and being cool does not seem to matter any more.

What made things worse was the fact that no vents point at the passenger! She wasn't happy!! haha

Cannot help on this, but I was about to post exactly the same question. My car will be 5 in October, and I reckon it may well never have had the A/C regassed ever. It does get cold, but it is hardly blowing chunks of ice either. I was wondering if they are all like this or if a regas would bring some noticeable benefit.

I've just had my AC regassed at my last service. The air is cold but it's not very strong. IE it doesnt blow out quickly. That's just the nature of the Tuscan. My advice would be to take the roof and rear screen out and drive like the wind

I'm not gonna get a chance til Thursday at the earliest I'm afraid. Will get back to you. Cost of a re-gas is £30 - £50 (South Wales mind you!)

I have just had a quote for re-gassing: £75 at their workshop, or £95 for a home visit. This covers everything though: pressure test, deep vac test, new compressor oil, UV dye installed and regassed. Seems OK.

Hi Bryan - nice to meet you at the car club meeting on Tuesday.

If there is any interest in Yorkshire, we can bring a guy to one of the Car Club meetings and do a couple of cars. If we had 2/3 cars it would work out at about £50 per car for the test and re-gas etc. Bit short notice for tonight's North Yorkshire Meeting; but maybe the West Yorkshire Region meeting at the Golf Course and maybe Yorkshire & Humberside Region at Emmerdale. If anybody is interested, names to your RO and ROs to contact me.

Paid £80 for mine to be done 2 years ago by a small non-TVR garage. Huge improvement and still going strong. I had the car for over a year before doing this, believing the limp puff of less warm air was all the system was capable of. Air-con service even appeared as an item on the service bill from a TVR dealer during that time and (whatever they actually did!?) made no difference.

When it's working you get an unmistakeably cold stream of air. To try and communicate what to expect, condensation forms on the windscreen in little patches above the dash-top air vents as the screen gets cold in hot weather and my wife closes the footwell vent if she has bare legs because it's too cold. You also get a clear click and fairly unpleasant whirring as the pump trips in and out, which you can't hear at speed but it's unmistakeable when stationary. If it's been running for a while in humid weather I also get up to a cupfull of water running out of the drain hole in the nearside arch after parking.

Had mine regassed this morning at Dream Machines. Took about 1 hour overall and they found a joint that had come slightly undone, hence no juice in the system. 1/2 turn of spanner did it.
Now gets nice and cool but as one of the posts earlier says, even on full fan, it's not a real big blast of air.
Still, most pleasant on a hot day like today - 28 degrees down here.
