Gigaclear and mesh wifi
Discussion
Hi all,
Did search previous threads and Google but couldn't find much at all to confirm one way or the other.
We have Gigaclear Ultrafast100 with the 'powered by Linksys' router but no additional nodes.
I'd like to add a mesh wifi to the house (rather than extenders) to give seamless cover and a bit more reach out to the patio.
I was looking at upgrading to possible Orbi which would mean replacing the existing Linksys router.
Has anyone done that with Gigaclear?
Part of my confusion is Gigaclear's own website talks about an additional cost per month for smart (mesh) wifi???
Is it not just as simple as swapping to the Orbi router (connected in to the Gigaclear wall terminal) and adding the Orbi satellites to the network?

The Linksys Velop system is a mesh system. You could just buy some additional Velop nodes and connect them wireless to the existing Velop master node.
When you buy an upgraded mesh setup from Gigaclear they just ship some extra nodes to you.
You can just swap out all the Linksys stuff for any other system, mesh or not if preferred.

Thanks. That's what I understood too, it's the extra cost per month that gigaclear charge that is confusing me. As though they have to turn on the mesh functionality???When you buy an upgraded mesh setup from Gigaclear they just ship some extra nodes to you.

I suspect that they provide the extra velop mesh nodes for the extra charge.

“Can I change your router for another router or fibre-optic decoder?
We are unable to swap the modem or Genexis router out directly because of its optic-decoding function. The Lynksys Velop unit you will recieve as part of your installation can be changed for a 3rd party router of your choice, however we are unable to assist with the set up of this.”
I’d check the instructions for logging onto the supplied router and adding a mesh node from Linksys site and confirm the options are there.
If not and they are locked out for some reason then you can replace the system in it’s entirety.
Have you read through these?
