Recommendation on a good starter DA polisher and compound
Discussion
Hi folks
I’m a keen detailed but always been a but recuctant to go the DA route in fear of screwing up my paint lol.
It’s birthday time next week and as I’m out of ideas for the wench I thought I’d take the plunge. I’ve been recommended a DAS-6 polisher and scholl S20 compound although looks like this is for black cars ? (My cayenne is black and my 570 is grey but it would be mainly for the cayenne which has loads of swirl marks).
Would appreciate any advice !
Thanks
Nat

I got this kit back in March last year.

The results were well worth the effort, it's a bit of a mine field with how many products are out there...

I've used the S20 on a couple of cars and been impressed with it for a one step quick operation.
May not beat a multi stage polish but for the average diyer it's pretty good.
Sounds like a good starting place for me 👍. Anyone good recommendations for the pads - think I’m nearly there ! May not beat a multi stage polish but for the average diyer it's pretty good.
The DAS-6 Pro is a great starting point. But beware! I started that way and within a year had forked out over a grand on cordless Flex polishers. It’s a relentlessly deep rabbit hole!
I’d go with Flex pads all the way. They offer a great choice of sizes and cutting combinations. They’re the most durable ones too, I’ve found. I use a combination of Koch Chemie compounds, occasionally dipping into Megs finishing polish too.
Good luck! It’s utterly addictive. I do my cars once a year, along with other cars belonging to friends and family members too.

Im much the same, always detailed by hand but today I’ve used a Daspro6 for the first time. I used a soft pad which is more for finishing so not much cut, and auto finesse triple 3 which is a polish / wax mix.
Seems to be the go to for beginner machine polisher, I’ve got to say I’ve had some great results, although I think I need to slow down. Was scared about my paint so building my confidence with it.

I bought a Halfords DA after reading various reviews. Slow start, long lead, variable speeds, comes with hard, medium and soft pads.
I used it on my recently purchased black 2018 Connect to remove the ghosting that was apparent in strong sunlight from a previous owners sign writIng. I've only had one pass with it using the soft pad and Megs carnauba wax, and it dealt with it. There are some surface scratches it hasn't dealt with, I'll do some local areas with a harder pad and Megs Ultimate compound, then go again with the softer pad and wax, but for how little I've spent and how little time I've taken, I'm very impressed.
