Just heard on the radio that 8 people killed in a shooting at a FedEx depot somewhere in the USA.
I am sat here shaking my head at the senselessness of it all and not quite believing a shooting like this has happened again.

Edit:
BBC news story here
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-5677020...

Seems it was in Indianapolis

And as awful as it sounds I'm sitting here thinking "another one oh well" because it just seems like a daily occurrence in the USA.

Some serious issues in that country.

And the response is just as predictable:

“Moar GUNNNNNSSSS!”
“It’s all Mexico’s fault”
“Well, we already have lots of guns”
And finally
“Guns are a fundamental right! Countries without guns will all end up dictatorships!”

Sandy hook was the moment that should have changed America’s appetite for guns and nothing happened.
A thousand children could be killed and nothing would change.

There are people who believe Sandy Hook was a hoax, a parent who lost a child and went on to campaign for gun control now lives under protection. What a country!

I could understand it if it was Hermes, but not Fedex.

A "mass" shooting is literally a daily occurrence over there:

Disgruntled employee, no doubt.

Fed Ex had a major incident along these lines almost 30 years ago involving a soon to be fired employee trying to hijack one of their DC-10 freighters and attempting to fly it into the Fed Ex HQ.

8 deaths will barely register over there.

As mentioned above if someone can waltz into a school and shoot 20 kids without anything changing then the place is beyond redemption when it comes to these sort of events.

There's no longer any shock or revulsion at what happens with guns.

Maybe Fed-Ex should review their recruitment policy of employing gun owners with mental problems, or just not employ gun owners.

That is absolutely insane. But sadly believeable.

Not surprising in a country where the general public has access to guns. When you think about it, it really is about the most stupid thing in the world. Imagine walking around Tesco/ Aldi / whatever, thinking that all those people you come across could have access to a firearm...

But not Waitrose. You get a much better class of psychopath there.

Their first ‘logical’ solution/idea will be all FedEx employees should be armed. Get more guns involved to sort out the gun problem.

How they turn around the gun issue is likely impossible now.

Person with known mental health issues and easy access to firearms what could possibly go wrong............

Unfortunately the US as a country seem to be on a downward spiral the past 10-15 years I always fancied emigrating when I was younger now I’d be looking for danger money.

That is one of the most sensible things I have ever heard, no sarcasm either.
No politician is ever going to take a serious stance on gun control, I assume gun licence ownership is checkable, like a driving licence.
If large US corporations made recruitment practice a mandatory no gun licence policy it could actually be a game changer over a long period.
We do not employ people who are going to come in and shoot us if sacked would presumably cover it, don't think it could be challenged as anti constitutional.

There is no gun licensing in the US. There are various permits depending on the area to do particular things (such as concealed carry) but basically anyone can buy a gun with no ID and no requirement to check anything. There are SOME controls on gun retailers but private sales can take place with nothing more than a bundle of cash being handed over.
