Have a K20a engine and gearbox to remove from the EP3, will take it out from the top hence the need for an engine hoist/crane.

Would like a folding 1tonne version under £200. Sadly there aren't any decent 2nd hand around where I live so need to buy a new one. SGS don't have any of their 1 tonne currently available, looks like ebay is the only choice. Any recommendations as to a decent one or are they all from the same factory in China?

2 tonne for less than most places sell 1 tonne models for.

I have a Chinese one, that looks exactly like the link, cost me 60 pounds in Asia. In 10 years it's pulled the engine out if my track car most years. Needed an oil change this year. Otherwise it's been perfect.
But I'm not sure I'd buy one at 150pounds to use once. Can't you hire?

I looked at hiring, think it was about £60+vat for the weekend hire. Means you're either restricted to getting everything done in a weekend or you need to hire again to finish the job. Plus going to collect and drop off. Didn't seem worth the hassle over just buying one. Although the one I linked to was less when I bought it so even easier to justify.

I needed one recently like you it’s probably for a one off job. But as it’s a chassis swap I needed it over a few months about 4 times. Facebook marketplace seemed to have a few for rent at £20 a day, well used, but so what?

In the end I won a Clarke strong arm for £107 on eBay. It’s a bit worn but still works just fine and lifted a 300TDi plus both gearboxes as one unit. I’ve also used it to move the thing about a fair bit and had it jacked up for a full on steam clean so it’s come in more useful than I imagined.

Will Probably stick it on marketplace when I’m done and get my money back

As I said mine was a cheap Chinese one, it's 10+years old and used a lot, its stored inside, but in the tropics, earlier this year I had to change the hydraulic fluid. Few pound and easy fix, I assume the fluid just took in some water in the humidity. That's been the only issue. it wouldn't worry me buying second hand.

There's the 'Switzer' 2 ton on eBay for £187, I bought that one last year. It looks like they all come from the same place in China. The 1 ton version is £175. IMO the 2 ton is the one to get as they're only rated for that at the shortest extension, dropping to 1/4 of that at full extension (so 2 ton -> 500kg or 1 ton -> 250kg).
I used mine for a BMW N62 V8 + autobox at a combined 300kg, worked great.
It looks like a K20a + gearbox is about 180kg so you should be ok with the 1 ton version, but I'd still get the 2 ton for safety factor.

Thanks guys, just ordered the switzer 2 tonne version, the front wheels being able to swivel compared to the non swivelling 1tonne version I think will reduce the swearing factor 😂

Nice one, never realised the wheel arrangements are different. The 2 ton also sits on 4 wheels when folded so can be scooted around too. The legs are pinned upright so they can't fall.

Don't forget a load leveller, they're £20 and up on eBay.
