Something Sporty with back seats, £8-£12k newer than 2012

Been thinking about a change from my 2012 Focus Zetec S 182 and have been looking at a local Renaultsport Megane Cup 265 which seems very nice apart from the cheap tyres and have also been considering a Mk. 3 Focus ST but wanted to cast my net a little bit wider.
Is there anything I'm missing? BMW's would always be older, in some cases five or six years older so not interested in them really, Audi's are numb and handle poorly.
Golf R's, while rapid, aren't known for involvement and while some are in my price range it's only just which likely means something akin to a nail that hasn't been looked after.
Mk. 3 Seat Leon's seem interesting but again, are they a little bit numb and remote feeling?
Am I missing out on something obvious or something a little bit left field?

Depends on your space requirements.
All the cars you mentioned are family sized hatchbacks with the Megane being the pick for driver enjoyment. You could always go down a size where you get a newer car for your money.

Or how about a GT86 coupe? They start at around 10k for a 2012 model.
The other car that gets a lot of praise in the class you’re looking at is the Astra gtc vxr. Less popular so you get a slightly newer one in budget. 280bhp so plenty quick enough and the reviews all say it’s great to drive.

Astra GTC VXR very good steer a smidge behind the Megane RS (I rate these as a better steer than the Focus ST) but you do get a newer car & get a years warranty if you buy from a main dealer:

Next is the 308 GTI 270 they're getting harder to find as prices are firming up as the used market is recognising these as a good buy, it does mean you'll have to stretch your budget & haggle hard.
