Discussion
Afternoon all, I have a 987.1 with the basic CDR and no Bose. The CDR display keeps going off and I never use the FM radio, I'm wondering if I can remove the headunit and just use a Focal impulse 4.320 amplifier that I've knocking around in a drawer with either a bluetooth module or 3.5mm lead plugged into it. Id be filling the gap that the CDR leaves with the shelf from a 997. Will removing the radio confuse the car or cause anything else to go wonky? Im not really interested in putting in a modern double din screen as I don't like the look of them. Am I being daft or is it doable ?
Edit to add, I wont be chopping any of the looms or anything as the amp has ISO ins and outs. It would be fully reversible if I wanted to sell the car in future.
Thanks

I use playlists on Spotify on random so I don’t need to change track and hardly ever change the volume. If that was a problem though I could always fit something like this plugged straight into the amp
Alpine Electronics EZi BT DAB and Bluetooth Adapter, Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01LZWIFW0/ref=cm_sw_r...
Or put an inline rotary volume control hidden somewhere to turn the phone output up and down.

My phone tends to live under the armrest when I'm in the 987, I currently use a rubbish bluetooth FM transmitter and can hear all kinds of interference and alternator whine. When I got the car I fitted Rainbow components which were a huge improvement over the ASK speakers, I was originally going to use the Focal amp with the CDR but with the display dying and one of the knobs falling apart last year I decided against it. I like the idea of no radio and just having spotify. I know all the wiring that I need to run the amp is there apart from a live , what I'm not sure of is the MOST system looking for something that isn't there and issues caused by it.
Why not just add a Pioneer DAB 250 or similar?

Do you have an ipod lead? I added a buetooth ipod dock adaptor to mine, works a treat, far better than the FM things

I’m not interested in swapping the radio to an aftermarket item as previously stated as I don’t like the looks and won’t use any of the other features apart from Bluetooth/aux in. all I want to know is that if I remove the radio will it mess with the cars systems. I want to use the amp with either Bluetooth or hardwired. I won’t be touching the phone while driving as I put a playlist on random before I get the car off the drive and I never change the volume so the legalities are a non issue. Thanks to the previous poster il have a look at the link.
