Shopping around and a bit lost on specs...

Samsung QT60T looks pretty good, as does the Panny 800HX

Any others worth considering ?

If it's the smart features you're after go into Richer Sounds & have a play as the OS features & ease of use differs greatly between manufacturers.

Samsung for me; best UI of all the major players when I bought my TV a few years back.

As you have no doubt realised, there isn't actually that much choice when it comes to 43" TVs. I had to buy one recently and I ended up with a Samsung TU8000 which was £379.

https://www.samsung.com/uk/tvs/uhd-4k-tv/tu8000-43...

If I am honest it is not as good as my nearly four year old Samsung 55" MU7000. The MU7000 picture quality is better and the interface is quicker and feels much nicer to use.

But for the price it is good, I didn't really want to pay extra for a QLED as I personally think there is little benefit.

Ended up buying a 50 QT65 as the 43 didn’t look big enough and the 50 was £150 cheaper !

Unfortunately the TV had to fit into a 1 meter wide gap, otherwise I would have done exactly the same thing. As you discovered you can actually buy a 50 or 55 inch TV for not much more at all (or less in your case!)

If we had the space I would have bought the 55 inch LG OLED John Lewis have for £949 at the moment.

Whatever TV you want for the other stuff and picture quality, and plug a Fire TV / Roku / whatever else box into it. Or a TV with Android OS. I've got a Philips and it's no problem so far after a couple of years.

I have a QE43Q60R to fit the alcove in the living room, it was the highest model at the time and whilst decent enough it struggles with dark scenes far more than the old tv it replaced.
I’ve recently upgraded the bedroom tv and didn’t bother with the Q model, opting for a 50" TU8000 at a lower price.
