Boss Anna Blackburn said: "I think there's a lot of that. Through lockdown we saw online that people weren't going away, they were getting refunds and were spending and treating themselves because they've probably saved money.

"Now I think there are still limitations to what people can do, and I think they're thinking they've always wanted that Swiss watch or that diamond ring, and they are just treating themselves which is brilliant to see."

English was not my first language, but I'm not sure 'Revenge' purchases is correct here. 'Treat', 'Frivolous' or 'Reward' are probably more accurate I'd have thought.

Or perhaps people really do believe they are getting their own back on COVID-19. Folk can be strange.

So basically one person at Beaverbrooks who possibly doesn't use English as their first language has used the word revenge to a journalist, clearly not understanding the word at all. The journalist repeated the word cos they'll print any old st, however wrong it is. Have I got that right?

The term was first used in China last spring after their lockdown.

It does seem a bit of odd wording.

If it's revenge on the government for lockdown,all these frivolous purchases will be subject to tax ,no?,.....gov wins again.

Surely a revenge purchase would be to buy it over the internet even though shops are now open? I went into London on Saturday to Oxford Street and it just reminded me how much I hate the high street.

You end up going to five shops who don't actually have what you want so you end up buying it online anyway.

Regardless of what it's called I always felt we we would see a pent up fury of buying occur once the restrictions have been eased or lifted completely.
I am desperate to get my hair cut, since my bonce looks like a busted sack, but I think I might leave it a while, until all the `revenge haircuts have been done and dusted, and things return to a more normal pitch of life.

I couldn't get an appointment for weeks so in the end I got my brother to cut mine. Hopefully by the time it needs cutting again demand will have got back to normal and I will be able to go to my usual barber.

I did however get a revenge car wash the other day.
