Dodgy iphone 8 (no sound) - any ideas?

Hi Forum,

Mife's iphone 8 has decided to have no sound, no haptics, and even the volume control buttons don't seem to do anything (no volume up / down on screen). Works fine on bluetooth, but can't press speaker / phone in a call. It's as if the phone can't "see" the audio side at all. Siri shows as a little circle, but doesn't respond to me saying anything.

Any ideas what has gone awry? It's only 3 months old but due to lockdown I had to get it from a local phone shop who simply don't want to know / help saying "well you must have dropped it". Looks like I'll have to either go fully PH director with them for resolution, but I'm busy so if it's simple then I might just get it fixed elsewhere and write it off to experience..

Had similar with my old 7-there’s a connector at the bottom around the charging port apparently which breaks. Unfortunately it’s part of the main circuit board so it’s basically unrepairable, according to the Apple store I took it to.

Whether that was part of the ploy to get me to buy a new phone, I’ve no idea; it worked though
