Hi All,

As featured in the barge/shed threads, I've just purchased an old S-Type Jag.

The only thing I'm not enjoying about it is that age old issue of stick on tat, that seems to gravitate towards old smoker Jags.

This particular one has had an R badge stuck on each wing, and the bootlid. There are also leaper badges stuck on the wings, bootlid and ash tray lid.

I prised the R badge off the bootlid last night and now it's left white foam adhesive residue on the bootlid.

Any recommendations for removal? I want them all off.

Use a hairdryer and dental floss to remove the badges.

Then try WD40 and a rag to get rid of residue followed by a polish.

WD40

Soak the residue/foam

Pick off with fingernail and microfibre cloth

I normally use boiling water (or as boiling as it is from walking from the kitchen to the car once its clicked off) - they tend to lift off easily then - external badges only (of course)

Petrol also works, little dab on a rag, eats glue no bother.

As mentioned. A hair dryer, floss, WD40, cloth and plenty of patience.

I might give that a bash on the wing badges.

I can't wait to get them off in case anyone thinks I've put them on.

Just to say I really like that car. The colour is perfect. My dad has one in midnight blue, and I thought that had presence. Your one, though.. Hmm, might be time to get me another Jag.

How does it perform? Power/Comfort wise?

Thanks!

I was actually looking for a dark blue over ivory/tan + wooden dash model, but this came up. I always said as long as the car had a light colour interior, I would consider it. This was a good car with a good history, and well specified.

It's believe the Sport models had slightly stiffer suspension, the engine is the standard 3.0 V6, but make no bones about it, this car is a proper barge. It's got an adequate turn of speed, its 240bhp in a 1.8 tonne car.

I managed to get two of the badges off up to now without doing any damage. The R badge from the left hand side of the bootlid, and the leaper badge off the ash tray. Just the other one on the boot, and the wings to go.

Just to update, I've managed to get them all off with the aid of a drop of lighter fluid. So much Geralded chrome. This type of car tends to attract them. Rover 75s, too. I'm really glad I didn't have a bonnet ornament to deal with, too.

Discreet addition of mine, though.

Thanks for the advice.
