I'm currently thinking of changing my 2014 Leon daily driver but am struggling to find anything that meets all my requirements.

1) length must 4400 mm max (got a lot of stuff at the back of the garage)
2) boot capacity of 380l min
3) a light interior, I'm sick to death of black seats etc
4) HVAC using proper buttons/knobs
5) petrol or electric
6) automatic if petrol
7) sensible sized wheels and comfortable suspension
8) not a SUV
9) would consider anything up to 12 months old and 5000 miles
10) sub 8 second 0-60
11) not a fan of the likes of the latest Merc A class dashboards

Budget isn't a huge concern but under £40k would be nice. I'm not a badge snob so wouldn't have a problem with a Kia, Hyundai, Skoda etc.
It will be interesting to see what the collected wisdom of PH come up with as I'm pretty stumped.

BMW M140i (F20) or the M135i newer shape model

Boot space is 360/380 litres
Just sneak in on length
Easily achieve performance benchmarks
HVAC controls are knobs (on the F20 at least)
Auto is available (and better than the manual in reality)
Come with 18" alloys (bigger available, 17" fit)
Have a few nice lighter interior options

Funnily enough I was looking at the 2 series GC over the weekend but are too long. Never been a fan of BMWs but it's an avenue to consider.

The Renault Megane ticks a lot of the boxes if you can find a GT 205 they meet all of your parameters.

You can also get the RS 300:

Unfortunately they all seem to have black interiors which makes them all non-starters, many thanks for the suggestions though.

You can get them with lighter interiors the Vignale is easier to find with these, the above were just giving you ideas of what models to look for.

I'll do some more digging, you've given me a few I hadn't considered. I do like the Astra, they did come with a nice light interior as an option when the current model came out but that no longer seems to be the case. I did end up on the Mini website earlier, the Clubman does meet most of my criteria apart from bootspace but it's only 20l less than my ideal so that's a compromise I can live with.
