Currently have a IBM laptop which is a corporate device that's is being re-purposed and a surface pro which is in all honesty nice to look at but terrible to use.

These laptops will be connected to a 24" monitors (which are quite old) via HDMI, they don't have DVI or Usb-C. They will be used solely for inputting sales data into a pretty basic excel spreadsheet.

Recommendation for the laptops?

Dell's business line of Lattitude laptops are pretty damn good. A bit pricier than other brands but worth it.

The cheaper Vostros aren't bad either. Plus Dell Support is brilliant.

On the consumer side, never had an issue with an Asus but if you do need to repair it it'll take longer than the Dell.

If you're doing Data Entry on those devices, be kind, and buy them a proper keyboard biggrin

Makes sense being new as we're VAT registered.

As for external keyboards there will be about 10 lines of text entered a day so it's an additional complication we could do without.

Maybe the HP 240/250 range? as long as you have i5,8gb ram and a SSD they'll be more than adequate.

An ssd essential for such a basic task or are they pretty standard nowadays?

Is that all they will be doing? If it is any new laptop could do that.

Yeah, that will be the extent of their use. We have 7 fixed terminals already that are cloud based that we used for customer facing and operational processes.

Nice if your budget can stretch to include one, but not essential. For web and office, you're better off with more RAM than an SSD. Both would be ideal.

If you don't need a lot of space they're so cheap it's hard to see a cost benefit to not getting one.
