The equivalent of driving a personal tracking device.

Any car with sat nav is already doing that.

I'd be most worried about buying one then they get cut off by the US/UK govs and it suddenly stops working one day!

Maybe via another system, but not the sat nav itself as that’s not how they work. They just listen to pings from satellites, they don’t broadcast.

most manufacturers are recording pretty much everything your doing now, data = profit

mercedes me is as bad as google for data logging, merc will even disable the car and tell the finance company where to pick it up if you miss payments lol

Quite a good looking thing as crossovers go. I wonder if it'll make it to the UK.

5G aside - I bet it is a completely capable car. If it was cheap enough I'd certainly consider one if I were in the market for an EV/Hybrid SUV.

Like lots of people on PH, I'm keen to hold onto my ICE cars for as long as possible. But when it comes to buying an EV/Hybrid, I absolutely won't be assuming that manufacturers I'm unfamiliar with can't make a decent vehicle.

As for data tracking, they all do it. The rental car company I used to work for had an unbelievable amount of data available to them. They could even track tyre pressures in real time. Unlock the car from your car rental app? Sure. Upgrade your rental, mid-rental to enable the Sat Nav? Sure. One of the minefields they were working through was what to do with data collected from a phone that was connected to the car during the rental.

Because, what if that's a child's phone? Suddenly you're inadvertently harvesting data from a 3rd party individual who is under-18 and has not signed any terms and conditions with you.

But, shiny new car!

This. It might be doomsday thinking, but what happens if some government get into a fight with the Chinese. And the Chinese respond with "good luck with your infrastructure".

That said, it looks like a mini Urus as someone mentioned. Good to have some nice competition in the market.

Probably not - I don't think the charging infrastructure is in-place worldwide...

"Equipped with HUAWEI DriveONE Three-in-One Electric Drive, the system is not only the optimal solution for reducing range anxiety, but also delivering world-class coupe performance. The new SERES SF5 offers flexibility for users, with a range of 180 km in pure electric mode to meet the needs of daily city commuters,1 and a range of over 1000 km in extended range mode for long distance travelers."

So, the word "hybrid" doesn't cross their lips, but 180km in "pure electric", 1000km in "extended range mode"

It's a hybrid then?

Pretty bold statement considering no context given - I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're rationale is based upon the media reports of China's slave labour, along with a range of government subsidised harmful activities for the rest of us (namely fishing vessels invading foreign waters without permits).

If not, what's the reasoning for being so anti-China?

I lived there 4 plus years,
My eyes are wide open, what I see, I like very much.
Certainly a place to retire in a couple of years,

Fast, looks good, and will automatically drive you directly to the nearest "re-education camp" if it overhears you say anything negative about China.

China:

My first boss said "be careful how you treat people on the way up, because you'll meet them again on the way down".

The West needs to reflect on how it treated China..China of course are on the way up so don't care.

The Huawei thing:

if it's anything like my old phone it was be flashy for a bit, then gradually get slower and slower, then the windscreen will crack and it will be consigned to the back of a draw.

(Ok, may need a big draw.... )
