Are they any good? What do you use them for?

Putting an offer on a house that has built in steam oven, but in a standard sized oven slot the interior is tiny. Are they any good? We have a steamer that goes on the hob, and have had an electric steamer in the past. Looking at the colour of the water in the bottom, and the buildup of limescale you get in the electric ones, are steam ovens a nightmare to keep clean?

We extended our kitchen two years ago and I had a built-in microwave on order. Spoke to someone who raved about a steam oven so £1k became £3k and now have a micro/steam combi.

We use it loads. Veg taste better in it. Boiled eggs are a cinch. Rice, melted choc, fish, all sorts. Ours has a menu system so you just tell it what you are cooking, how you like it done, press go and it does the rest. It will even give you recipes and do multi-food cooking; just tell it all the bits and it asks for them when required. Did the Xmas pud in it in 2019.

Cleaning is easy, nothing gets burnt on obviously. However, I do live in Edinburgh and there is no scale here. I was so surprised there was no scale after moving up from 35 years in SW London.

It is Miele kit, what else for PH, but I will say they have been out a few times for the microwave playing up, so much so they extended the warranty from 2 years to 5 as a gesture of goodwill. Never had a problem with the steam function. Drying it after use is a bit of a pain but you don’t really need to, just leave the door cracked open. I dry it off though as it costs a pigging fortune and I treat it as such!
