Imperial Spanners, Taps and Dies
Discussion
Sorting through my Dad's Old Tools.
Are Imperial Spanners, Taps and Dies of any use?
Not looking to sell but wouldn't like to throw them away if someone could use them.
Most of it is probably from the Sixties.
He was always mending and making things and would be happy if someone could use them.

There are a few charities that refurbish tools for use by community groups in Africa. You'd need to check to see if they need imperial sizes, but with the significant legacy of British kit that was exported there you may well find it's in demand.

I gave away an Imperial shed load of new nuts/bolts/washers when I sold the last of my older British cars (Talbot Sunbeam), I only paid £15 for boxes and boxes of them via ebay as it was collect only. I gave them to a young lad who lives near that I knew had bought and done up quite a few older British cars. I'm sure he will make good use of them, see if you can do something similar maybe
I've got a full set of A/F spanners and sockets for my Lotus Elan. I'm an old begger, and have owned various twin cams for the last 45 years. I've been given loads of spanners by mates who have no use for them. I bought taps and dies from China for refurbishing threads.
So yes there is a demand/market for them, but they aren't worth much.
Last time I was in the UK I bought a set of new A/F combination spanners from Halfords, in Plymouth, they had one set and were glad to see them go, the assistant asked me if I knew what I was doing as they didn't fit anything. The halford set just fell nicer than the stuff from the 70s.

When the clutch master cylinder went on my XK and I finally got forced to stop and call out the RAC the technician was ever so pleased that he finally got to use the set of imperial spanners he'd been carry around for years.
