I saw a maroon 959 in Burnham this morning.
I'd heard of one in the area (South Bucks/Berks) but hadn't seen it before. Apparently it used to be owned by Rowan Atkinson and now owned by the CEO of a clinical trials firm.
First one I've seen in the flesh and frankly it took my breath away. At first it looked like a 993 just a bit lower. As it approached it seemed a bit wide so I'm thinking "wide body S" but when it got to a few metres away I realised what it was.
Cue dribble on my tie...

Magnificent car - this technical chef d'oeuvre is what got me interested in porkers in the first place.
I like to think that my 993tt is the spiritual progeny resulting from the work that went into the 959. OK I don't have the water-cooled heads or the complicated sequential turbo system, but I also don't have the crazy spare parts prices!

I remember talking to the owner of Auto Classica who had four of these cars including a maroon factory prototype and a silver car , specially commissioned with scarlet leather and 100bhp over standard . When he used to exercise a 959 , a colleague used to travel behind him to avoid the enourmous bill should anyone have rear -ended the car !
I had a sit in the silver 959 at Harewood in 03 and was amazed by it .

I had a ride in a (probably that) maroon 959 that an IT company owner in Kent owned and used - properly. I was unimpressed with it at speeds of below 100 mph - we saw 130 on an A road and I could sense the power it had, but my RS was absolutely faster than that car up to the ton mark and miles more exciting.
The shape is still magnificent though - I know of a sweet graphite grey low mileage example that shows the shape off beautifully (the silver ones tend to show up the shutlines too much)
