Looking for help and advice. I am planning to change my 2016 Macan S Diesel and am exploring options. Last week I enquired about a trade in price and was told my car had outstanding finance with Porsche finance (Volkswagen financial services - VWFS) on HPI check. This was a complete surprise. I had purchased my car outright in 2017 and was told by the Porsche dealership at the time that it was free of all financial encumbrances.
I immediately contacted the Porsche dealer from whom I had purchased the car who in turn confirmed the HPI check and then contacted VWFS who said they had no financial interest in the car and the HPI check was an error. I have tried to find out how this happened and, more importantly, get the marker removed but I am blocked at every turn. VWFS won't discuss this with me because I do not have any contract with them. They consider it to be an issue for the Porsche dealership. The dealership deny any responsibility even though the date marked on HPI is the same day I bought the car. So this is going back and forward with no immediate sign of a resolution and my car is unsellable. Needless to say there have been lots of phone calls and emails but no one will take this on. Any suggestions where to go next?

If VWFS have said they have no interest in the car then they will send an email to the dealer to that effect.

Dealer can then pass this on to you.

Hpi should remove the marker, this can take a week or so.

Plenty of mistakes get made, it's not uncommon.

I am sure you are right. I have copies of those emails from VWFS to Porsche saying there is no outstanding finance but I am not sure anybody will accept that when the HPI check online comes back "positive". Is HPI a separate company? If so how do i make contact with them? I am getting very frustrated and angry and would really like somebody's balls on a plate because if I can't sell the car I will have to get it MoT checked etc - expenses I was hoping to avoid.

Yes, Hpi is a separate company, and they're only as good as the information given to them (Their words if something is wrong)

Re check your car in a week, I'm sure it'll no longer show as being on finance.

You should still be able to sell your car to a dealer, they'll check with VWFS and check they have no interest, they'll then buy your car.

HPI won’t talk with you unless you’re a customer, i.e. you’ve paid for an HPI Report. So you need to do a report for yourself, and then you can call them and ask them how to get the incorrect marker removed, they’ll likely have some specific steps to go through but as others have said they do correct errors when they occur (they just need evidence).
