I occasionally upload videos to YouTube to share with family and friends. Is there a free piece of editing software that will allow me to add text onto sections of the video? I uploaded something today that clearly has an error in it and I would like to acknowledge the error so that the viewer is aware that I know I got it wrong! I don't want to reshoot the video.

Thanks.

The free version of Resolve will do this.

With the app open, at the bottom go to Media and drag the footage in.
Then go to the edit tab and drag the clips on the timeline, chop them down as needed but on the clip you want, the point you need the text go to the video effects section and drag the text effect to the track on top of the video that will appear.

From there, click on the text box on the timeline (have the preview over the middle too), then in the top right you type what you want, font, colour etc, it drags around from the preview window or click and hold the mouse over the x and then y box and drag left or right.

Then if you don't want colour head to render and output to what you need, add to render queue then render.

I think he means once the video is already up on Youtube.
Yes, within YouTube Studio there is an editor to add elements and additional text. Channels do it all the time, adding in corrections.
Just go to the section where you manage your videos. I think there is even a link to YouTube Studio if you click on your logo on YouTube.
