I have a Sony Bravia tv and a Yamaha 5.1 speaker setup. They are connected via hdmi into the arc port in the tv. Normally when switching on the tv the speakers also switch on but every so often, normally after a power cut, the speakers switch on with the tv but no sound comes through until I perform a soft reset (holding power button on remote until tv restarts). The speakers then work as normal

This normally lasts a few weeks before mysteriously rectifying itself until the next power cut.

This time though, it’s been playing up since Christmas and I’m getting fed up of having to soft reset every time we switch on the tv.

Any suggestions of how to fix it are welcome!

It's HDMI - Hardly Developed, Mostly Intermittent

If the audio set-up menus on the TV have it, next time the speakers fail to wake, go in to the speaker settings on the TV and change the setting to Home Cinema or similar.

Thanks. I have been through the settings and it’s all correct. I don’t know if the fault is with the tv or the amp

HDMI 2.1 should fix this, so upgrade time.

Really? It’s worth a try I suppose. I’ve ordered one so I’ll let you know.

HDMI ARC is garbage. There is nothing wrong with your equipment, it's just a crap, non-standardised technology. The best way to fix this is to connect the TV to the 5.1 system using an optical cable.
