Ebay advice please.

I have just sold an item on Ebay for repair and selected cash on collection. as well as stating twice in the listing that I want cash on collection. The winning bidder has ignored my request and paid by Ebay payments.
I don't want to pay the fees or someone later claiming a refund on spurious grounds. Is there any way I can cancel the transaction and not leave myself open to negative feedback? The last time I had this sort of problem I refunded the buyer at his request and he still gave me negative feedback! Ebay removed it, but I don't want the inconvenience.
As above just cancel it. I had the same problem late last year. I sold a set of winter tyres, listing stated four times that it was cash on collection, no postage. Seconds after the auction ended payment was made via PayPal and a message asking me to wrap them on a pallet and a courier would collect. I just cancelled and refunded. Unfortunately I got a negative but who cares, no-one looks at it anyway.
As per the other couple of recent eBay threads on here, under the new eBay managed payments setup cash on collection is being phased out and all payments are to be made electronically via eBay - either at the time of sale or the point of collection.
If an item is being collected, that has already been paid for or being paid for at the time of collection, a QR code (available via the eBay app) needs to be scanned at the time of collection to confirm the buyer has paid and taken posession of the item as that then stops chargebacks being made.
Although it's possible the buyer has ignored your cash on collection request, under the new eBay setup they are technically able and encouraged to pay that way for collection items which is possibly why the payment has gone through that way. You can by all means contact the buyer to advise you'll be refunding and want cash, but if the buyer isn't happy and you decide to cancel / refund, at that stage it's likely eBay may put a strike against your account for selling infringements under their amended t&c's.

I am less concerned about him claiming not to have had the item, more that he will later claim it was faulty otherwise than in accordance with the description. I've just sold a whole bunch of motorcycle bits on ebay - same as you. Mostly spares/repair, Cash on collection.
Some went for the opening bid. 99p and a fiver, which I'm not bothered about, next stop was the scrappy so if its of use to someone then fine.
Others went higher. Wheel went for nearly £40, gearbox for nearly £90. Only had one message so far which was for the gearbox.
Seems genuine. He's driving 150miles or so to collect it tomorrow. Exchanged numbers etc.
Despite saying multiple times cash on collection, UK bidders only etc, one guy asked if I could remove the tyre and tube post the wheel to Poland. Guess I can be thankful that he didn't win, then ask.

Last thing I bought on Ebay (which was advertised as Cash on Collection) - there was no option for me to do that.
It made me pay for it when I hit the buy it now button.

The chap has been in touch and suggested that I cancel he will pay cash. "Because you won't take Paypal I'll have to check it over" says he.
So, the plan was obviously to take it and come back to me for a refund if he wasn't happy and all the "oh if you'd only said you wanted cash it wouldn't have been a problem" was a load of tosh. I had made it quite clear that cash was required, he didn't miss it, it just didn't suit him to pay that way.
The last time this happened I was selling a bike CASH ON COLLECTION. The winner paid by PP and then asked which train station I would like to deliver it to. When I said that CASH ON COLLECTION meant payment in cash and from my house he wanted a refund. Which he got promptly and rewarded me with negative feedback.
As someone said earlier, Ebay is dying. At least for casual sellers of odds and sods found in the loft.

Maybe it will in the long term for the small private sales, which the site was originally founded on, but that's not the main target audience for eBay nowadays. As mentioned on other threads, they've now moved themselves to a primarily retail / business focused portal - just like AmazonOf course us occasional private sellers can still use the platform but it's just now with different payment methods, fees deducted at the point of sale before funds are transferred directly to your account, etc, rather than what we were used to for years. Ideally eBay would prefer private sellers move to one of their other domestic products Gumtree or Shpock which still allow for non bank account linked payments like Paypal or Cash On Collection, etc.
The buyer agreed to cancel. This morning, I got a text from my bank saying that I have gone into an unauthorised overdraft. It seems that Ebay charges a fee regardless of whether the buyer cancels.
I deliberately didn't give Ebay my main bank account details, because I really am not sure they can be trusted.
Coincidentally, the buyer has just emailed me saying he has not received a refund.
