BMW ti compact
Discussion
My brother in law sadly passed away suddenly and part of his estate was an old (x Reg)BMW compact 3 door saloon. He hasn’t used it in years but has been stored in a garage and appears in very reasonable condition - no rust apparent and very neat looking paintwork, interior leather in fine condition, clean engine bay and all electrics in working order - it has done less than 80,000 miles and doesn’t look like it will take much to put back on the road.
Assuming I can get it started, what kind of value might it achieve - I would take it on myself but have already too many cars and bikes already so looking to shift it as a project for an enthusiast. Could be a nice little car for someone...?

If It's an X Reg it will be an E36, so 4 cylinder only.
But it might be worth a bit more than £1K depending on exact model, condition, spec, etc.
Good point. Forgot the Compacts were released later on the E46 (facepalm). As you quite rightly say, going to be a 4cyl (unless it's a 323ti Euro import!!)But it might be worth a bit more than £1K depending on exact model, condition, spec, etc.
Sorry to hear about your brother in law.
First a couple of things, when was the last time the engine was run?
As others have said don’t put too much effort into cleaning it, maybe do a short video on the car before doing anything to it?
If it’s been a while since the engine was run I would have a look at M539 restorations on YouTube. He regularly gets cars that have been left standing for a while without being run. There’s some really good advice on there.

So I have given it a quick wash and clean out and it is a surprisingly nice car under the grime!
It’s a 318 TI Sport manual with only one previous owner and a 1895cc engine.
The paint, leather interior and wheels are all in excellent undamaged condition with decent Continental tyres and all the buttons and gadgets seem to work fine.
I can’t get the engine started as the battery isn’t holding a charge, but feel sure it is healthy enough and it is a very tidy engine bay too - there are M badges on the door trim, steering wheel and gear Knob has the BMW body kit and big exhaust so nice and sporty looking.
Let me know if you know of any enthusiast who might be interested - I would definitely take it myself if I hadn’t so many toys already!

I think this will sell very easily, though I find it hard to peg a value for it. I would assume a grand or two?
Certainly think it's worth a small expenditure on a fresh battery and oil change and see how it runs. If you check it over and it all seems good, maybe put it in for van MOT? It'll either pass with a little effort, good for value, or you'll know exactly what it needs, good for straightforward selling.

Is the exhaust aftermarket?
