In the past few days hordes of rather grumpy wasps have appeared, cheerfully irritating and stinging people. Seems unusually early, plus the striped little bds seem particularly vicious. A neighbour got stung on the arse by one that decided to get into bed with them!

Is it just south west Leicestershire, or more general.

Lots of bumbly bees and tiny bees around. Wasps are enjoying a drink from the bowl I put out for them. Do you call them 'jaspers' in that part of the midlands? smile

We had loads of wasps at the weekend which is really unusual at this time of year. I’m in Derbyshire.

Few here Worcestershire, had to 'deter' a queen from making a nest in my outhouse, those Waspinator things seem to work well later in the year.

Got plenty here, but they're distracted by the Cherry Laurel which produces nectar on the leaves. Its like Maccy's for wasps

We used to call them jaspers in school, though that was a while ago.

And almost all (6998) are totally harmless to humans. Even the ones we don't like, (yellow stinging buggers Vespula vulgaris) are very good at controlling other insect pests in the garden etc.

Yeah try not to kill the little buggers if you can help it. In autumn apparently the grumpy ones are the drones that have been kicked out and not fed any more. Homeless and starving, hardly surprising they are a bit pissed.
