Got a long train journey coming up and want something to read. Any suggestions?
What subject matter interests you? ... besides lurking among rose bushes for unwary passing boys.![]()

How did you know....
I'm interested in motorsport (obviously) but I've read all the usual suspects. Interested in music too.
"I Claudius" and "Claudius the God and his Wife Messalina" by Robert Graves. And if you don't fancy the Roman bit you can go for Graves' own autobiography "Goodbye to All That" which talks about his time during the war and his relationship with characters such as Lawrence of Arabia. And if not "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom" by the same T.E. Lawrence, with a mixture of war in the desert. You'd need a long train journey for that one though. Yup, I'm old fasioned me. Of all I can say that apart from the Roman ones - where there are no music nor cars, maybe some sex, treason and murder in exchange - there are cars featured at times (only, T.E. Lawrence, much of a petrolhead himself, seems to have only been able to find camels for transportation in the desert, and Robert Graves spends most of the time on a bicicle)... they are just really good biographies, could not stop recommending them even though they have nothing to do with cars / music.

I've read The White Goddess : A Historical Grammar of Poetic Myth and also King Jesus, by Graves. Fascinating, (love all that Bloomsbury set stuff) but a little too heavy for a train journey methinks. Heck, I must be old fashioned too
Hey, my favourite book!!!
Some wonderful connections between mythologies and beliefs. Not that many people like it; the more I read it the more new things I learn. Haven't read King Jesus at all... any good? His I Claudius is just fantastic, really. And Goodbye to All That explains many things about his works too.

Forgot to add that all these other books are the "light" stuff of Graves, just in case. Nothing too deep
