Help please. One of my external HDs is apparently full and the consequence is that Lightroom can't open a catalogue saying "there is not enough room on the drive". It is a 4TB Maxtor HD. The message says I need 20mb for it to run. I have deleted a lot of files (at least 10GB worth) but still it shows full. It is linked to an iMac and I have run disc utility and repair but the problem persists. Any suggestion as to how I can retrieve the space so that LR runs OK? Thanks in advance

Have you emptied your Bin or Recycle Bin? Sometimes the files still count on the drive until they're emptied.

Are you sure it's the external HDD that it's complaining about, and not it's scratch/temp file location on your boot drive?

Either way, I'd be very wary of running any drive at 99.75% capacity. I start to get nervous when I've only got 10% left - and then start offloading/archiving older stuff to other HDDs or BD-R to clear up space (and to send to clients after a big project - although most are happy to use DropBox Business for storing/sharing).

If it's not the Recycle Bin, use WinDirStat to look and see what is sucking up all the space.

Don't think that's for Mac.

You could try Disk Inventory X to do something similar.

Don't worry, I work on both, and sometime find myself with a useful utility in Windows and then go home to a Mac and try to do the same thing only then realising it's on the PC in the office.
